MELVYN (MEL) LESLIE JARVIS April 14, 1930 - June 19, 2016 Peacefully, on Father's Day, with his three daughters by his side, Dad passed away. True to his kind nature and on his own terms, he left to be reunited with Mom. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Lyne (Gary), Lisa (Jim) and Robyn (Janine); grandchildren, Steven, Colin, Taisa (Robin) and Meg; and grand-dog Ryleigh. He also leaves his brother Lyn (Joyce); sisters-in-law, Jean and Dorothy (Dave) and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret, in October 2015 and his parents. Mel was born on April 14, 1930 to Margaret and Alfred Jarvis, who had emigrated from Wales in 1926. He lived on Toronto Street in Winnipeg until he and Mom were married. His first part-time job was at Kresge Department Store and at age 17, after graduating from Gordon Bell High School, he took a position as a mail clerk with MTS. He then worked as a linesman, travelling all over Manitoba, until he chose his final career path as the head of Quality Control for the company. He retired in 1991 after 44 and one half years of service. Dad and Mom were married on June 27, 1959, and they built our family home on Sansome Avenue in 1961. It was the center for our family for over 50 years. Dad loved life! He was a proud yet humble man, patient and easy-going, with a great sense of humour and quick wit. Most importantly, he was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He brought a smile to us all when we spent time with him and he was always willing to have a conversation or debate about any topic that you were interested in. He and Mom enjoyed numerous trips to England, Wales and Portugal, and many trips around Canada and the USA with family and friends. They were always busy with activities like bowling, dancing, golfing, curling and playing cards. The last three years of Dad's life he had moved to 455 Westwood Drive and was involved in all the activities there, meeting a new group of friends and enjoying many evenings playing games in the common room. It was truly his "happy place". The family sends special thanks to his doctors, Claire Jaeger, Joel Gingerich and his assistant Cheryl Greaves, who have gone above and beyond to support Dad and our family through his lengthy illness. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Dad's name to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. A celebration of Mel's life will be held at the ANAVETS Legion, 3584 Portage Avenue on Monday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m., which would have been Mom and Dad's 57th anniversary. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I met Mel and Margaret in my capacity as their financial planner. Both Mel and Margaret were very easy to deal with and Mel was always supportive of the work that we did on behalf of he and Margaret. I also remember meeting Robyn and she was also a delight to deal with. I can just imagine the two of them dancing their hearts out in heaven.
