Born: Dec 20, 1957
Date of Passing: Jul 06, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPATRICIA JOAN HURLBURT December 20, 1957 - July 6, 2016 Sadly we announce the death of our sister, cousin, aunt and friend Pat. She passed amid reminiscences, laughter and tears from her family and compassionate caregivers at Grace Hospice. "You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all she left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see her, or you can be full of the love she shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live for yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that she's gone, or you can cherish the memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what she'd want: smile open your eyes and go on." Pat was a person of many "greats". A great sense of humor and wit, a great sense of precision, a great game player, a great sense of fashion and most importantly a great shoe collection. Before Multiple Sclerosis robbed her of her dexterity, she could knit and sew beautifully. She loved family gatherings at our cottage and boy could she cook a fabulous turkey. Pat went to Isaac Brock and Daniel MacIntyre Schools and graduated with a BSc in Geography from the University of Winnipeg. She worked for the Province of Manitoba for 35 years where she made many longtime friends. Pat leaves to mourn their loss, brothers Alan (Frieda), Bob (Fran), sister Kim (Gerard), cousin Judy, niece Jennifer (Martyn), nephews Chris (Tamara), Joe (Tevya), Tom and Craig. Great nephews Coen and Tobias, brand new great niece Karyna, and many friends and colleagues. Following Pat's wishes there will be no funeral. We invite those who knew Pat to join us for an informal gathering to remember and celebrate Pat's life at Riverbend Plaza, 400 Osborne Street, Main Floor Multipurpose room on Monday, July 18, 2016 from 4:00 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation the MS Society, Grace Hospice or charity of choice. "You will be sadly missed, dear Sister." For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715

I was so sorry to hear of Pat‘s passing this past week. We lost touch around 10 years ago, about the time my husband was seriously ill. I have so many memories of growing up with Pat and attending both Issac Brock and Daniel McIntyre schools together. I recall our frequent skip days in high school in order to spend an extra day at her precious cottage at Victoria Beach. We never seemed to get into trouble for missing school because we we were always honest with our reason for skipping class, and I guess it helped that we got our work done. I remember Pat’s old Studebaker car that used to stall out at every few intersections because of the missing teeth on the fly wheel. We had a pretty good system of jumping out of the vehicle popping the hood and pulling on the fan belt to turn the fly will to a point where the engine would engage again. This made for many laughs. I also remember sharing many lovely family dinners in the Hurlburt home. One very funny memory I’ll never forget is when Pat's mom wanted her to clean up the dishes after a meal and Pat kept telling her that she didn’t have time because she had ‘intercourse’ that night. Her mother looked shocked and and after repeating this excuse again, I can recall Pat turning very red having now realized what she had said to her mother. She meant to say she had a university “intersession course” to get to, lol. This summer we spent together at Longbow Lake was also very memorable for many reasons. Despite the hard work and the struggles, and the tragedy that surrounded us, we made the very best of a difficult situation. I will cherish these and many other memories we shared together. Sending love to all of you. Sharon 💜 - Posted by: Sharon Gurney (Friend) on: Jul 08, 2019

Having been only 4 years older than Pat (Patsy), I remember lots of times with fun times with the Hurlburt family. (That crabapple tree was a treat!). In this very sad time, I am sending warm hugs over the miles to the family. Sincerely, an old neighborhood friend on Clifton Street, Betasha L. Sawry - Posted by: Betasha L. I am sending sincere sympathies to Alan, Bob, and Kim from an old friend and neighbour from Clifton Street. Glad that you met my sister Linda and brother Richard at the memorial for Mr. Taylor...another neighbour. We all could share hours of memories from our fun times with our pals. What a great and fun group we had in those days of our childhood. She was the wee little redhead with energy!! Hugs to all! Pat - Posted by: Pat (Sawry) Soucie (Clifton Street friend) on: Jul 12, 2016
