It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of a great pioneer educator for University of Manitoba, School of Architecture and Interior Design. A dedicated lady of great stature, and unforgettable for her attention and guidance to me and all students. Yin Yin (nee Wei) Matisz - Posted by: Yin Yin Matisz (student (1964-1968)) on: Sep 21, 2016

I am coming to Manitoba and I had heard that Miss Harland might possibly be available. I only found out tonight that she had died in July. MIss Harland was so kind to me as a student. I got to know her more when I was Social Convenor in 3rd year and because of other student activities. She knew my financial situation and she was very encouraging to me about continuing in Interior Design as it was then known, even though I was no Design star. She was kind to me and I will never forget her as a role model. If I needed advice on planning some event, she was available. I can call back, even to this day, her quiet presence and strength. How I wish I could have seen her once more. - Posted by: Belva Betty Osborne (Brunsdon when I was a student) (Student) on: Aug 31, 2016

Joan Harland was a passionate educator and advocate for art history, interior design and architecture. Indeed she was the founder of the Dept. of Interior Design at the University of Manitoba. She tirelessly devoted her life to the further betterment of our environments. She seemed ageless. She was also devoted to her church (St. George's Anglican). After a long and full life, may you rest in peace. Kathi Wirth, - Posted by: Kathi Wirth (student in Interior Design Class of 1979) on: Aug 03, 2016
