JOYCE JOSEPHINE CATHERINE EWASHKO (nee BALACKO) Unexpectedly on July 17, 2016, Joyce Ewashko passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 78 years. Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her children: Linda (Peter), Lisa (Larry), Laura (Cam); her grandchildren: Michelle, Diana, Ryan, Jennifer; her brothers George, Danny, and Ken; and extended family and friends. Predeceased by her husband Ted (2002) and her parents Daniel and Rose. Joyce grew up in Stony Mountain and Winnipeg. She graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1958 and on July 22, 1961, she and Ted were married. Joyce worked as a nurse in Minneapolis, Quebec, Ontario and Manitoba. Prior to retirement Joyce was a dedicated geriatric nurse at Deer Lodge Centre. Joyce's love of travel took her on adventures all over the world. She was active with many organizations including the WGH/HSC Alumni Association, Horticultural Association, multiple Seniors and Widows groups while still finding time for harmonica, yoga, aqua-fitness and spending time with her family and friends. She was very involved with her grandchildren whom she loved dearly and never missed the opportunity to attend school, music and sporting events. She was very proud to be their biggest fan. For her years of ongoing wellness care, the family would like to thank Dr. Sheila Domke and also thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their recent care and compassion. Funeral service will take place in the chapel at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce's memory may be made to Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba. Ever loved ... • Joyce was a very good friend and help to many. We've been friends & classmates for years. She was a true inspiration. She travelled on the same trip as my husband Al & I to Russia & China. She always brought home some neat gifts for her family. I'm really going to miss her & her connection with the WGH/HSC Alumnae.
