GRAHAM CLIFFORD BARTLEY Graham Clifford Bartley passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at the age of 25 years. Graham was born on March 25, 1991 in Winnipeg, MB. He was the oldest of three children of Allen and Carol Bartley. He grew up in South Winnipeg with his two sisters Sarah and Meaghan. Graham is survived by his parents Allen and Carol Bartley; sisters Sarah and Meaghan Bartley; grandmother Rose Marie Bartley; grandparents Alan and Elizabeth McGillivray; many aunts and uncles; cousins; extended family and his cat Gimli. Graham was predeceased by his grandfather Donald Bartley. Graham had a brilliant mind and excelled in all aspects of his life. A high achiever, Graham graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Manitoba in 2014. While there, he received many awards and his education led to a career in Geotechnical Engineering. Graham was hard working but he knew how to kick back and have a good time. He thoroughly enjoyed camping, especially in the Rocky Mountains, and anything to do with the outdoors. Some of Graham's favourite places included Jasper and Crandell Mountain at Waterton Lakes; he was at peace there. Graham enjoyed sports, he played minor hockey, football and baseball. He was also an avid hockey fan. From a young age, Graham loved to build and fix things and always came up with little projects for himself; he was an engineer from the start. He was very passionate about his hobbies and enjoyed fantasy books, movies and games. Some of which included Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Final Fantasy and The Wheel of Time. Graham also loved the simple things in life - strong black coffee, craft beer, his trucks, spending time with the family dog, Shadow and sitting on his patio with his cat Gimli (named after a character in The Lord of the Rings). Graham was self-taught on guitar and loved his rock and roll, jazz and blues music. Most of all, Graham loved his family and friends. He shared many memories with Grandma and Grandpa McGillivray and Gramma and Grandpa Bartley. Fond memories include spending every Christmas in Elkhorn, MB and summers at Oak Lake, MB as a young boy. He was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend. Graham was caring, courageous, loyal, kind and loving. He would help anyone and had a massive heart. Graham touched the lives of everyone he met. He left us far too soon and our hearts are forever broken. A memorial service will be held for Graham on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 10:00 am at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, with interment and reception to immediately follow the service. Happiness can be found Even in the darkest of times If one only remembers to Turn on the light. ~ Albus Dumbledore THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • I'm so sorry to just hear about your loss. I had the PRIVILEGE of being one of Graham's Gr. 8 teachers - and I can honestly say in my 37 years of teaching that I never had a stronger student. Graham inspired me in many ways - his video with Paul in which he explained the nature of concussions is still something I talk about when I do in-services. He was also amazingly hard-working - his motto in my class, which he shared when he presented to a group of teachers who were amazed by all the work he did, was simply: "I'm never really sure if something is good enough, so I just keep working until it's the best it can be. " Graham, you were the best anyone could be. - Posted by: Syd Korsunsky (Former teacher) on: Mar 14, 2017

  • Graham was a good friend and band mate to our son Andrew. The boys would have practices in our basement and it was always a pleasure for us because these guys were really good musicians! Graham was always a polite smiling young man, he would always stop for a moment and chat with us whether in our home or if we saw him out around the city. Always a handshake and a "how are you?" We knew he had a brilliant mind, however what stood out to us about Graham was his beautiful kind gentle sweet soul. He was one of a kind and we often thought how proud his parents must be. Carol, Allen, Sarah, Meaghan and all extended family, we are deeply sorry and moved by the loss of your amazing Graham. He touched lives you never new, he'll be remembered and treasured in many many hearts. His beautiful soul is at peace, and he is now your guardian angel. God Bless. - Posted by: James and Marylynne Tutte (Our son Andrew and Graham were friends) on: Jul 27, 2016

  • Dear Carol, Allen, Sara, and Meghan, We send sympathies to yourselves and extended family at this time. What a wonderfully accomplished young man! It seems hard to understand why this beautiful life would leave us so early. A new star shall shine bright above us. Thinking of you all, we shall keep a light turned on.
