Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMIKE BABULIC Mike Babulic died peacefully in his home on July 27, 2016, after the cancer he had beaten back 19 years earlier returned. He was predeceased by his wife "Gen" (Mary-Alice Genevieve). He is survived by four sons, Michael (Brenda), Patrick (Sandy), David (Kathleen), Kevin (Heidi), his brother Jon (Linda), sister-in-law Patricia McNamara (Ken), and seven grandchildren Sean, Jamie, Jonah, Isaac, Jack, Ian and Max. He leaves behind a community of family, friends and neighbours who all miss him very much. Mike was born in on January 6, 1934 in Sudbury, Ontario to Mike and Kristina Babulic. He was a talented athlete and played basketball in high school and college. He played against the Harlem Globetrotters twice, but they only broke his nose once. After graduating from Ryerson in metallurgy in 1956, Mike hired on with Inco in Sudbury, Ontario. He married his high school sweetheart Gen Quilty and moved their young family to Thompson, Manitoba; a brand new town in the northern bush. By the end of his career Mike had become Superintendent of Traffic and Transportation for Inco's Manitoba Division. Mike and Gen were enthusiastic citizens of Thompson and northern Manitoba. They curled, they square danced, and much more. For example: Mike served on the school board, he coached basketball, and he helped to get the Thompson golf club started. His sons remember standing on the greens while blackflies crawled up their pant legs and down their necks. Mike and Gen loved to travel. They discovered Canada with their children every summer. Starting in the late 1970's, the couple travelled the world on cruise ships. After retirement, Mike and Gen moved to Winnipeg, where they found new friends and new pastimes. Many people have enjoyed Mike's fine wine. Sincere thanks to the Palliative Care team for their kindness and compassionate care. A special thank you to Deb Suderman (who Mike called his adopted daughter) for all she did, especially in Mike's last few weeks. A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive. A private interment will be held at a later date. Daniela's fondest/cherished memory. Shortly after arriving in Canada in 1983, I received the most beautiful bouquet of red & white carnations, ( my favorite flower). The card read, " Welcome to Canada" Love Gen & Mike . Your Cousin. Bill's. First time Mike & Gen came to our home for a visit, they brought over a 6 pack of Mike's award winning wines. We saved the wine for later, but we finished off a bottle of 25 year old single Malt Scotch Whiskey. Also Mike & I were in constant touch by e-mails. They will both be missed very much. - Posted by: Daniela & Bill Siska & Family (1st cousin) on: Jul 30, 2016

I am saddened to hear of the loss of Mike Babulic. He was a wonderful man, who loved his wife and family dearly. My condolences to his children and their families. I babysat the four boys in Thompson when they were young and in this way got to know Mike and Gen quite well. God Bless. - Posted by: Alexa (Hnatuk) LeStrat (friend) on: Jul 30, 2016
