Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHAZEL LORETTA BARKER (nee WOODS) 1927 - 2016 Peacefully on August 1, 2016, Hazel Loretta Barker went to be with the Lord. She joins her dearly loved husband Arthur who predeceased her in 2012 and her beloved son Irwin who passed away in 2010. She was also predeceased by her parents Emmanuel and Annie Woods; brother Rodney, and sisters Agnes, twins Ruth and Rita, Vivian, and Elsie. She is survived by her daughters Myrna Baker of Kelowna and Valeri (Don) Brown of Winnipeg and her son Lorne (Tracy) of Kelowna. Hazel loved and was loved by her 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Hazel was born August 12, 1927 on the farm in Rossburn, MB, and was the youngest of seven. Hazel taught in a one-room school in Southern Manitoba for a year, and then went to Bible School. After she graduated she married the love of her life Arthur Barker on November 20, 1948 and doted over him for the next 64 years. Hazel kept a spotless home while also working part-time at Eaton's and then at Sears. Hazel and Arthur owned a cottage at Manhattan Beach Retreat Centre and spent most of their summers there over the years. They were faithful members of Calvary Temple. Hazel had a strong faith and personal relationship with Jesus. She was a Sunday School teacher and a leader in women's ministries. She and Arthur led a home Bible study group. Hazel was friendly, welcoming, and a very positive person. She loved to sing hymns and read her Bible. Sadly, Hazel developed dementia, which required a move to Kildonan Personal Care Centre in December 2011. There she made it her mission to love all of the staff and be a friend to many of the residents. She prayed continually for all of her family members and for all the staff, whom the family would like to thank for their excellent attentiveness to all her needs. Mom looked forward with joy to the day when she would be called Home. Well done, good and faithful servant. Funeral service will be held at Calvary Temple, 400 Hargrave Street (main sanctuary) on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111

I only knew Hazel from the KPCC dining room, where I visited my dad on Sunday mornings. Your mother would quietly sing or hum church hymns and choruses while she waited for breakfast. She lived her faith and brought joy even when she wasn't aware of it. Wishing peace and comfort to the family. - Posted by: Velma () on: Aug 07, 2016

Hazel and Arthur were my table hosts at Calvary Temple's Alpha Course several years ago. With wisdom and humility they shared their faith, answering questions and explaining biblical truths. It was so completely evident they loved the Lord their God with all their hearts, all theirs minds and all their souls. May God comfort all who mourn Hazel's passing. - Posted by: Margaret Stefiuk (friend) on: Aug 03, 2016
