Date of Passing: Aug 04, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY MYRTLE CARON (née LAWRIE) Dorothy Myrtle Caron passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Tuxedo Villa. She joins the love of her life, Gerald, who passed away five months prior to her. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Isabella Lawrie; and her siblings, Mary, James, Gertrude, Isabel, John, Robert, Evelyn, Jean, William, Annie, George and Shirley. She will be greatly missed by her children, Gerald (Linda), Tim (Anik), Lawrie (Virginia), and Sandra; her grandchildren, Marie-Andree, Kathy (Christian), Nicole (Conor), Emilie (Kevin) and Christopher; her 11 great-grandchildren; her brother Tom Lawrie; and other relatives. Dorothy was born April 3, 1925 in the family home in St. James. Dorothy met Gerald while working at the Singer Sewing Company. They were married on June 14, 1952 and moved into a home she and Gerald built only a few houses down from her childhood home. Dorothy worked part-time teaching sewing in the evening for the St. James School Division. She later worked in the Wool Department of Eaton's Downtown and eventually retiring from Fanny's Fabrics, when she then began her most rewarding career, looking after her grandchildren. Family meant everything to Dorothy. She loved to bake and was well known for her goodies that were always made with love. Dorothy loved to sew, knit, and crochet, especially for her grandchildren. Dorothy never missed a summer at the beach. From the time she was born, she would go on the Moonlight Train to Grand Beach where the Lawrie Family spent many hours making human pyramids, doing sports, and congregating at the family cottage, "Jock's Lodge". In the late 1970s, Dorothy and Gerald built their own cottage at Hillside Beach where they spent their summers with family and friends. Dorothy enjoyed being at the cottage, working in the yard, reading in the hammock, and doing word searches on the deck. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Brebeuf Parish, 1707 John Brebeuf Place, Winnipeg MB, with Father Mark Tarrant presiding. A reception will follow. The family wishes to thank all those who have expressed their sympathy and support during this difficult time and especially the staff at Tuxedo Villa for their care and compassion. Sandra - I am very sorry to hear about your mother's death. I know that she was not well for quite a long time; but I also know that the loss of a parent always leaves a huge hole in your life that somehow never can be filled again. I wish you and your family peace with this loss and strength in the memories you will hold forever. Bless you all - Jane - Posted by: Jane O'Leary (Friend to Sandra Caron) on: Aug 06, 2016
