JOANNE ELIZABETH SINGBEIL (nee McDONALD) 1939 - 2016 The passions of Mom's life were family, church and community. The third child of Louis and Annette McDonald, she arrived in this world on November 19, 1939 in Flin Flon. Her childhood was spent with her parents and siblings, Bill, Dennis, James and Louellen. The McDonald family lived in Flin Flon and Seven Sisters before they settled in Winnipeg. There she attended school at St. Ignatius, St. Mary's Academy and Kelvin High. She married Robert (Bob) Singbeil August 6, 1960. They lived in Dauphin until 1968 when they returned to Winnipeg. Mom was predeceased by Bob (2004) and she was still wearing her wedding ring at the time of her death. Joanne and Bob raised six children: Roberta Rackal (Rick Rackal, Carly), Colleen (Warren Eaton, Sydney, Samuel, Mark,Cora), Bryce (Pearson, Tobin, Robert), Jennifer (Wayne Doherty, Ethan), Patrick (Kathy Warenchuk, Sarah, Abby), and Alexander (Shelagh Graham). Family was the core of Jo's life, and as the manager of a busy household on a tight budget, she had little time for herself for decades. Later she could develop her own interests and attended the University of Winnipeg, where she received her BA in 1999. St. Ignatius church was a cornerstone of Jo's life. She was a dedicated member of the congregation and attended mass daily in recent years. She loved meeting her friends for coffee after church. Mom had many interests. She loved theatre, sports, belonged to book clubs, and generally engaged the world with interest and a smile. Mom took great interest in her neighbourhood and community. She loved to bake and her jam blossoms were loved by her family and friends. Gardening was a source of great pleasure for Jo, and she nurtured plants as she nurtured her children, family, and friends. Joanne believed in volunteering in her community and gave her time to almost every organization she came in contact with. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at St. Ignatius Church, Stafford and Corydon, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Private interment will take place at a later date. Her family would like to thank the caring staff at St. Boniface Hospital A6West, CancerCare Manitoba, and River Heights homecare. In addition, Joanne's children would like to thank their employers for their support and understanding. Sorry to bother you. Have just been thinking of that summer you were here in Regina. • Joanne developed the art of friendship to a very high level. I, among many, have enjoyed her company while mall-walking, at the theatre and countless sessions over coffee at Eva's after mass at St. Ignatius. We will miss her. My sympathy to all her family. - Posted by: Gail Burns (Friend) on: Aug 06, 2016
