JOYCE BEGGS It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Joyce Beggs on July 19, 2016, at the Grace Hospital after a long struggle with Dementia. Joyce is survived by many longtime friends who were like family to her. She was predeceased by her sister Margaret in January of this year. Joyce was the eldest daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Beggs of Winnipeg. Joyce lived her whole life right from her birth up to a few months before her passing in the family home in the north end of Winnipeg. Joyce attended Champlain, Luxton and St. John's High School. After attending Business College she obtained a job working for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Joyce was a faithful employee of the railway until her retirement in 1984. Joyce was a member of the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir for a number of years where she put her singing talent to good use. She was surprised to learn at a young age that not everyone had perfect pitch and it was a special gift that she had been blessed with. Joyce was a longtime member of St. John's Presbyterian Church where she served on the board for many years. Joyce and her sister Margaret were very involved in the church and it was like a second family to them. They were always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Joyce loved all animals but especially cats. Their house was never complete without a number of cats to give affection to and to be treated like a member of the family. Dementia later in her life began to take a toll on Joyce's memory but she remained cheerful and would greet people with a welcoming hello even if she was not sure who you were. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 251 Bannerman Avenue, with Reverend Barbara Pilozow officiating. Many thanks to Seven Oaks Hospital and Golden West Personal Care Home for their care for Joyce during these past six months. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to St. John's Presbyterian Church or to a charity of your choice.
