MARGE SAWCHUK It is with heavy hearts we announce that our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Margaret Julia Sawchuk (nee Reich) passed away on August 6, 2016 at Douglas Campbell Lodge Personal Care Home, in Portage la Prairie. Marge was born on August 25, 1927 in Cloverleaf, MB where she met a young man, Michael Sawchuk; they married and built a farm in Cloverleaf. From milking cows, feeding chickens, to haying and picking stones, she made it a home for all of us. Besides farming she had the opportunity to work along with her sister Irene for Evelyn's Catering (Evelyn Omichenski). When she got her driver's license, she started a career at East Gate Lodge. There she graduated in 1986 with a Nurse's Aide Certificate, and in 1989 she received the "Attitude-Aptitude Session" in housekeeping. She loved working there, and she loved the people she met over the years, until her retirement. In 1997, Mom decided to sell the farm and moved out to Portage la Prairie. She found the perfect home with room to put in a little garden (her garden in Cloverleaf was about a half acre). In Portage, she made a career making perogies and cabbage rolls. She would make 50 dozen a day, all by hand. We always told her she's not charging enough, but that didn't matter to her; she enjoyed having family and friends come to visit her, and usually going home with something. To celebrate Mom's life, she leaves behind her three sons: Clifford (Ellen) of Portage la Prairie, Glen (Brenda) of Portage la Prairie, and Rodney (Val) of Winnipeg; her daughter Michelle (Bruce) of Guelph, ON; grandchildren Robin (Tricia), Jared, Madison, and Rejean; great-grandchildren Brooklyn and Dane; sister Doreen (Harry) Stefaniuk; and sister-in-law Olga Luby, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Mike in 1989, her parents Frank and Edith Reich, sisters Violet, Irene and Anne, and brother Adam. The family gives their thanks to Douglas Campbell Lodge for all their loving care and support. A Celebration of Margaret's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 12 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E. in Beausejour.
