MARGARET KIMIKO UTSUNOMIYA (nee MIYAUCHI) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Kimiko Utsunomiya on August 9, 2016. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She celebrated her 87th birthday at the Gimli Hospital where she rested comfortably during her last days. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 64 years Yasuo, her daughters Carol (Bill) and Terry (Tom). She will be missed by her grandchildren Melanie (Dwayne), Chuck (Beth), Trevor (Carolyn) and Ty, great-grandchildren Quentin and Austin. Margaret was predeceased by her parents Yoshia and Sua Miyauchi, sister Ida, brothers Masao, Jack and Jim. She is survived by her siblings Kathy (Ken), Mary (Terry), Marj, Bill (Heather), Archie (Lori) and many nieces and nephews. Margaret was born on June 28, 1929 in Brandon, Manitoba where she went to school. The family moved to Coaldale, Alberta where they farmed and she met her love Yasuo. They married on March 1, 1952. They moved to Winnipeg and after a year bought a home on Simcoe Street. Margaret worked in a factory until Yas retired and they moved to Gimli. There they both enjoyed and were active with the New Horizons Club, bowling, curling, bingo, carpet bowling, making perogies and pancake breakfasts. Margaret endured a few medical problems but fought to enjoy life. They travelled and liked to see places from coast to coast. She was the oldest child and her siblings remember her baking cakes for them. She was a thrifty mother sewing clothes and canning fruits and vegetables. Margaret enjoyed music, reading and watching sports. She was a great cook and family members will always have fond memories of her feasts to celebrate holidays. Her hugs and hearty pat on the back will always be remembered along with her caring nature and kindness to all. Margaret has chosen to have a small private family funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MJCCC (Manitoba Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre) 180 McPhillips Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 2J9 in her memory. The family would like to express their thanks and deepest appreciation to the staff at Gimli Hospital for their care and compassion during Margaret's lengthy stay.
