WOLFGANG SCHEFFER On August 14, 2016 our beloved Wolfgang died peacefully at home, with his family by his side. Mechanic extraordinaire, raconteur, musician, loving and devoted husband, father and friend, he will be dearly missed by his Maggie and their daughters Brigitte (Joshua Drews) and Renate, and his daughter Jene (Rob) Duarte, and his son Justin (Tracy). He was born in Germany in 1943, the eldest child of Frank Scheffer and Maria Thone. The family immigrated to Canada in 1958 and lived in Morden, Manitoba before moving to Winnipeg. In 1960, he and his father Frank established and operated Frank Motors. In 1982, he began and operated Golf Auto Service until his retirement in 2014. He loved cars and often said he had motor oil in his veins. We have had the privilege of hearing many great stories about his work ethic, his commitment to good and honest relationships and his stubborn determination in finding solutions for whatever problem came his way. However his real passion was his family. He was a gentlemen of the old school and worked hard to provide us with a good life. Many hours were spent watching his girls play basketball, volleyball, baseball and equestrian events. Family vacations were precious and allowed us to build strong and everlasting bonds. He most recently enjoyed a visit to New York City to witness a Triple Crown winner, followed by a trip to New Hampshire and Kentucky. Our family will forever be grateful for the kindness, compassion and tender love and care given to us and Wolfgang by the extraordinary people who held us up during this challenging time. We will remember his many random acts of kindness, his countless stories, his famous potato pancakes and his charismatic personality. You may honour Wolfgang by sharing one of his stories, by paying forward an act of kindness, or by making a donation to CancerCare Manitoba. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Rd. at 11:30 a.m. Gute Nacht und Schlaf gut mein schatz NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Margaret, Brigitte, and Renate, I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Wolfgang took great care of my cars and me for over 15 years. Over that time I heard so many stories of his love for you all. It was so obvious that you three were the center of his universe, even when he was bending over backwards to help his customers. The trips with Brigitte and Renate to New York the past few years were obviously so incredibly special to him. May the depth and breadth of his love for you all, carry you through this difficult time. Jen Loewen - Posted by: Jen Loewen () on: Sep 19, 2016

Wolfgang was my mechanic and friend for over 20 years and always called me "Helen" because he liked combining it with my surname of Hunt. He was a true gentleman and a caring person. I took my car to him before every long road trip and he always gave me a card with his cell number to call if I had problems on the road because he cared about his clients. He will be missed greatly. My sincere sympathy to Margaret and the family. I wish I could have been at the service but I'm presently several thousand miles away from home. - Posted by: Elizabeth Hunt (friend, client) on: Aug 20, 2016

Margaret, I believe that Wolfgang introduced us back in 1981 just before I moved to Ottawa. He was so obviously smitten with you. I am so glad you two went on to a happy life together with wonderful daughters. I first met lanky, blue-eyed Wolfgang at Frank Motors when my mother took her VW station waggon there. We became a VW family and friends of the Scheffers. Wolfgang and Hans saved me from freezing to death in my first car, a canary yellow Karmann Ghia, by installing a big hose from the engine compartment to snake up to the windshield, so the engine heat could defrost the window while driving home late at night after waitressing at the airport. Wolfgang also got me a $100 1961 Beetle when I came back to Canada by myself with two suitcases and no job prospects. The Beetle started in a blizzard at -40 and always ran well, you just had to flip the lever to the emergency tank when it started sputtering. I think musician Dave MacLean had it after me. Wolfgang was the kind of guy who could 'clean up nicely' and pour on the old world manners to charm the ladies. And he would collapse into an all out memorable laugh. - Posted by: Dagmar Horsman (Friend) on: Aug 18, 2016

Ami Bar Yesterday at 2:42pm · I just found out that Wolfgang Scheffer has passed away on Sunday. Even though I’ve met him only once and that was at my wedding, I’m saddened by the news. I’m also honored that he shared with me and Paul our special day. I remember the fist thing he said when I saw him was to point out that I forgot to shine my shoes and then to joke about my bad dancing, and I actually loved his jokes and found him to be a very nice gentleman that even though I met him once, he left his mark in my mind as a man that is unique and memorable. Of the many people I met that day, he is one of some that I will not forget. Thank you, Wolfgang, for coming to my wedding and I pray to God for your eternal peace and to grant your beloved wife and children the patience and strength to face this difficult time. Rest in peace - Posted by: Ami and Paul (Friends) on: Aug 17, 2016

Maggie, we send you and your family our very sincere condolences. We were very happy to see Wolfgang and finally meet you so few weeks ago in the hospital. We are sad that we never got to know all of you better and feel we really missed out on a very great character in Wolfgang. Klaus had visits and talked about cars and it all ended too soon. Will remember his happy face that day in HSC. Love to all. - Posted by: Klaus and Sylvia Fischer (Friend) on: Aug 17, 2016

I met Wolfgang in 2005. Wolfgang was a very kind and helpful person. I clearly remember one of his random acts of kindness... when my daughter's car broke down in winter. Mrs Scheffer called Wolfgang who left right away to help my daughter, and fixed her car without asking for anything in return. We will miss him rest in peace Wolfgang. Wolfgang was a coffee buddy who quickly became a dear friend. He loved to talk and tell stories. He dearly loved his family and was very proud of his girls. Wolfie's passion was cars and he could talk about any aspect of things with motors as long as you would listen. I will miss him. - Posted by: Patrick Curry (Friend) on: Aug 17, 2016

My most sincere condolences to the Scheffer family in the passing, of a husband, a "super" Dad and a really good all round gentleman. Very sad times right now but he is at rest, free of pain.
