GWENDOLEN PETSNICK December 4, 1927 - August 15, 2016 Gwendolen Calderwood Petsnick (nee Evans) died peacefully at Middlechurch Home on Monday, August 15, 2016 with her son by her side. She is survived by her son Gary (Tony Johnson); daughter Debra Holler (Pat); grandchildren, Danielle Bergeron (Yuri), Adam Regier (Sarah); great-grandson Jack Bergeron; brother Bill Evans (Marian); brother-in-law Gary Brown (Karen); sister-in-law Irma Reeve (Bill) and many nieces and nephews. Gwen was predeceased by her parents Oliver and Peggy Evans, her beloved husband of 49 years, Wally, and sister Dorothy Brown. Upon graduation from Lord Selkirk High School in Elmwood she received the first scholarship ever awarded to a student bound for commercial college. Later in life she helped to plan her class's 50th reunion. She began her career as a secretary but soon opted for becoming a dedicated and loving stay-at-home mother to her children. She enjoyed bowling, camping, gardening and swimming. After Wally's heart attack she began working as his assistant for Del Monte Fresh Fruit and enjoyed travelling with him to host trade shows. Gwen loved sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, reading and baking. She also cherished many vacations in Puerto Vallarta with her family. She was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for many years. She was blessed with a strong, clear high soprano voice and a great love of music. With Wally and various friends and family she enjoyed visits to Europe, Hawaii, Florida, Jamaica and Mexico. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and even after her decline in health she showed great kindness and brought joy to all those around her. Gwen's family would like to thank the entire staff of Middlechurch Home who all cared for her so lovingly and treated her like their own mother. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, August 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Avenue in East Kildonan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church's Syrian refugee sponsorship fund.
