OLGA (HOLYK) GMITEREK With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother on August 17, 2016 at St. Boniface Hospital. She is survived by husband Joe; son Ken; daughter-in-law Ivanka; and grandchildren Kyle and Kelsey. Mom was born on September 9, 1934 and grew up in the Lac Du bonnet area with her brothers George and Henry, and sisters Polly, Jean, Rose, and Anne. In 1950 she moved to Winnipeg to stay with her sisters Jean and Anne. On August 11, 1956 she was married to Joe Gmiterek and they just had their 60th wedding anniversary. They had one son, Ken born in May 1959. Mom worked at Eatons downtown in the groceteria for 25 years until her accident in 1981. She was no longer able to work, so she retired and became more engaged in her favourite pastimes of crocheting, knitting, playing cards and entertaining friends and family. Throughout her many stays in hospital over the years she was always able to rebound. However this last time was too insurmountable and she never returned home. After 56 years in their home on Keewatin St. they moved into Fred Douglas Lodge where they made many new friends. Special thanks to Helen who did so much for Mom. Always greatly appreciated. Thank you. Mom and Dad travelled to many vacation spots including Jamaica, Cuba, Mexico, and Hawaii which was her favourite. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and family. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul, MB. • Dear Kenny, Joe and family: please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of your dear mother. It was an honour to have known Olga for many years, thru St. Peter's Church, CWL, and I will truly miss her especially when we were partners in Canasta and she would give me that "special eye signal". Rest in peace my dear friend, and may God embrace you Kenny and your family in comfort during this difficult time. - Posted by: Nina Park (Longtime friend) on: Aug 22, 2016

  • Condolences to Olga's family. My Mom (Agnes Kasprick) and I played cards many times with Olga and Joe when they lived on Keewatin and we had many laughs. We lost our mom 2 months ago Ken, so I am sure they are enjoying a good game of cards now. - Posted by: Loraine Audette (Friend) on: Aug 20, 2016
