JOAN SUTHERLAND With heavy hearts we announce that our Mom passed away, with her two daughters by her side, on Thursday, August 18, 2016. Joan was predeceased by her husband Ian in January of this year. Our Mom and Grandma will be greatly missed by her daughters, Jami Wild (Mike) and Jodi (Paul) Crust; grandchildren, Kiersten (Myron) Sydoruk, Katie (Mike) Downs, Kevin (Jackie) Wild, McKenna Wild and Hailey Crust; great-grandchildren, Ellie and Rey; and very soon another great-grandchild. Joan's greatest joy was always her family. Mom possessed qualities we all admired - cooking family meals that were "prit-near" as good as Gordon Ramsay's - a gift she passed along to her daughters and grandchildren. She was the listening ear for the family and always made you feel better after, her advice and wisdom will be missed. Her love of Trevor Noah and their mutual dislike of Donald Trump fueled many rants over the last while that we all loved to hear as well as blow by blow descriptions of TV shows we all watched. She had a quiet patience and a quick wit, but enjoyed a good joke or teasing at her expense. Mom had a positive attitude towards life and she was always the shoulder to lean on, a role she cherished. She was our rock in so many ways. Mom enjoyed a quiet life with Dad, the simple things gave them most pleasure, bird and squirrel watching, weekly TV shows, a good book, a hot bath and a heated game of crib were activities they shared as a couple. Jami and Jodi shared something with their mother not all daughters do...she was our best friend as well as a parent. Mom loved having her daughters together, whether it was a concert, going out for dinner or just sitting around talking and drinking wine, the memories made will always be remembered. She also cherished time spent with her grandchildren - going to movies, watching them play sports and having them over for sleepovers. Mom was our best friend and we are going to miss her in so many ways. From receiving her emoji filled text messages signed off with a simple Luv., daily phone conversations, or getting together for family dinners. Mom, we love you so much and miss you already. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial has been held. If friends so wish, donations can be made in Joan's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
