GLENN D. SMITH 1944 - 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glenn D. Smith on August 17, 2016 with his wife by his side. After a long and courageous battle, Glenn finally succumbed to his cancer. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2011 which spread to his lymph nodes and finally to his brain in 2015. He felt the longevity of his life, while enduring his cancer struggle, was due to the tremendous support and prayers of his family and many close friends. Glenn is survived by his loving wife Audrey, brother Ken and wife Sella, his nieces and nephews, and Glenn and Audrey's extended families. He was predeceased by his parents, Nora and Norman Smith. Glenn was born in Winnipeg. He attended Elmwood High and later Red River College where he graduated in Business Administration. He worked as an adjustor for Allstate Insurance, and in accounting for the Bank of Canada. He was employed in sales for various firms ending with Panasonic Canada. After retirement from Panasonic Canada, Glenn enjoyed his many years as a volunteer driver in the Transport Department of Manitoba CancerCare/Canadian Cancer Society. He was always an active volunteer with other organizations like the United Way, the Red Cross and Big Brothers Manitoba Association. Glenn was a very colourful, gregarious individual with a great sense of humour who was happiest in the company of family and friends. He enjoyed his time on the Elmwood Sewer Tours and the Elmwood Hardknocks. Glenn and Audrey loved to travel on many road trips throughout Canada and the US. In retirement, they also enjoyed destinations, as the Caribbean, Las Vegas, Ukraine, New York and Mexico. Glenn was very fortunate to have visited Japan with Panasonic. Glenn and Audrey would like to thank the many doctors, medical and nonmedical staff of Health Sciences Centre, CancerCare, and the HSC Rehab who were involved in Glenn's care. They would also like to thank Father Bohdan/Don Lukie for his special friendship, hospital visits and support. Funeral service conducted by a Redemptorist Father will take place on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Avenue. Cremation has taken place and interment will occur at a later date. Donations in Glenn's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Transport Division. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Glenn was my big brother growing up and was a great role model and influence in my life. I missed reconnecting with him and only found out about his passing when I tried to locate him back in 2017. I had the pleasure of meeting his mother and spent time with them both at her cabin in Winnipeg Beach. He would have been proud of my success in life which also had a electronic background. He was the father I never had for many years. Thank you Glenn, I know you're watching a Panasonic TV up there in heaven! - Posted by: Chris B (Little Brother ( big brothers association) ) on: Jan 31, 2021
