DENNIS (BUFFALO) WIEBE August 14, 1949 - August 21, 2016 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Dennis (The Buff) Wiebe on August 21, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Bev; his daughters, Sandy (Brad) and Kimmie (Kevin); and grandchildren, Sheldon, Reid, Madison and Brooklyn. Also left to grieve are his siblings and their spouses, his mother-in-law, his sisters/brothers-in-law, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, William and Evelyn Wiebe and father-in-law Gerald Gunter. Dennis worked in Corrections for 30 years where he made lifelong friends and retired in 1999. For the last decade, he and Bev have called Elma, MB, home. He loved the peacefulness of the country. Dennis enjoyed people and loved visiting with friends and family, telling a good (or not so good) joke and long drives with plenty of stops for coffee breaks. He loved music and could often be heard driving down the block with his radio at 10. He was a huge Winnipeg Blue Bomber fan, always hopeful, "this is their year." We will miss his booming laugh, his guidance and that he always had our backs - even if we didn't know we needed it. A service in honour of Dennis' life will be held on Thursday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Gilbart's Funeral Chapel in Selkirk, MB. A luncheon will follow. We would like to thank the staff at HSC for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Even though we grew up in the same neighborhood, I didn't meet Dennis until 1986 when I transferred to the old Remand Centre on Princess Street. I considered Dennis my friend and enjoyed our occasional lunches after he retired. Yes his joke bag contained "groners" & "good ones", but he always had them ready to lighten the conversation. His heart was as big as he was and in spite of his occupation, he really was a gentle soul. As the Irish are fond of saying "May you be in Heaven 30 minutes before the Devil knows your gone."
