ARMIN FRITZ LATELL September 8, 1949 - August 21, 2016 It is with heavy hearts our family announces that Armin passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Armin will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 47 years, Debbie (Nephin); his sons Robert, Steven (Tracy); granddaughters Allison and Sarah; daughter Joy, grandsons Zack and Ethan and their father Jeff; brother Zieg; and the entire Nephin family. Armin was predeceased by his father Fritz and mother Elsa. Armin grew up in Atikokan, Ontario, where, as a teenager, he enjoyed working on cars with his father at the family service station. His father instilled in him a strong work ethic that he carried throughout his life. Armin married his high school sweetheart after moving to Winnipeg, and there they built a beautiful life together. Armin owned and operated a successful Petro Canada service station in Charleswood, eventually moving his shop to Headingley. Armin loved fixing cars, visiting with his many customers and making friends. He had a good reputation as a skilled mechanic. During his years in Headingley, Armin was a proud member of the Headingley Fire Department until his retirement in 2007. Armin and Debbie loved to travel. Their adventures with best friends Rick and Erica took them to far away destinations: China, Thailand, New Zealand to name a few. When Armin wasn't travelling or working on one of his endless projects he enjoyed spending time with family at the cottage. There Armin spent his time on long walks in the marsh, catching frogs with his grandchildren or constantly filling the gas tank of the seadoo. Armin loved to see the smiles on his grandchildren's faces. Armin and Debbie both cherished the friendships they made with their "Lake Friends" at Sugarpoint. Through Armin's many projects, the family continues to see his skills, love and labour. He will be deeply missed by all. Guests are encouraged to come and share their memories of Armin. A Celebration of Life will take place on August 26, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the Army Navy ANAVETS #283, 3584 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3K 0Z8. • Debbie,Joy,Robert & Steven. Just heard the sad news. Shocked !We so often reminisce about our years in Headingly and how without a doubt they were the best years ! Having you guys as one of our neighbors, the annual pig roast, snow golf, hay rides and the many times of get togethers that would just happen spontaneously. Armin was such a generous and kind man, always taking the time to help others. He will be sadly missed but will remain in our hearts forever. Love from your friends, Suzanne, Charlie, Renee and Andrea - Posted by: McClelland,Suzanne,Charlie,Renee & Andrea (Friends and previous neighbors) on: Aug 28, 2016

  • We want to send our sympathy to you, Debbie, and to your family at this difficult time. Since our moving we let our friendship subside and we are sorry for that. Armin was such a great guy and he was a good friend that we both liked a lot. Murray spent many times with him at the garage talking and sharing laughter. Armin also worked on our cars and our children's cars doing great work and sometimes even when the payment was late arriving. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Murray & Marie Thiessen (Friends) on: Aug 27, 2016

  • We are saddened by the untimely illness and subsequent death of a loving husband, dad, granddad and friend. Both Armin and Debbie were always ready for a good time, be it camping, travelling or social events. Those are the memories we will always cherish! Our heartfelt sympathy goes to Debbie, and the family in their time of loss and sorrow. May they find consolation in the happy memories they shared with Armin. • I am so sorry to hear about Armin, he was such a great friend and neighbor at the lake. If we ever needed any help he was over in a minute. He had all the tools. We spent many fun nights talking about all the adventures he and Debbie had. We went through the flood together side by side on the dikes till we were exhausted and back at it the next day. We are so sorry for your loss Debbie, he was such a great man. Barb and Mark Borden - Posted by: Barb and Mark Borden (cottage friends) on: Aug 24, 2016
