RONALD CLIFFORD GORDON SANDQUIST February 23, 1959 - August 22, 2016 At the age of 57 on August 22, 2016 Ron passed away at home with his best friend and wife of 34 years by his side after his strong fight against cancer. Left to cherish Ron's memory is his loving wife Tobie, and his children, his pride and joy; Sarah (Jessy), Lisa (Jamie), Ashley (Marc), Rebecca (Harrison), and Matthew (Kristin); grandchildren, Blake and Scarlett; loving mother Arzella Shrutwa; sisters, Sharon and Darlene; twin brother Donald; and sisters, Susan and Angie. Predeceased by his father Raymond Sandquist, sister Carol Sandquist, and beloved Aunty Edna. Born and raised in East Kildonan, Winnipeg, Ron was too smart for school and started at Weston Bakeries at the age of 18 where he worked for 32 years. Always interested in fast cars and bikes he swept Tobie off her feet onto the back of his Harley at the age of 19. Married 34 years, with five children he had to trade in his two wheels for a family friendly station wagon where he packed up his family and dogs and spent many summers out at Sherwood Lake, Ontario. In 2007, Ron and his family moved to Fraserwood, Manitoba. Ron joined the Fraserwood Fire Department where he earned his level 1 and fought fires side by side with his brothers. With much pride as yard manager, Ron worked at Rona when he was diagnosed with his illness and had to leave in order to start his fight against cancer. Shortly after his diagnosis, Ron relived his dream and purchased his Harley Davidson Heritage Softail in amber whiskey, driving many miles with his son by his side. Ron was a hard worker his whole life, a jack of all trades. No task he couldn't handle and he fought till the end. Ron always said "he may not be rich, but he is rich in love" and was very proud of his family. The Family would like to thank Dr. Ralph Wong at St. Boniface Hospital, and all the nurses at Gimli CancerCare as well as Dr. S.V. Patel for all the care they gave Ron. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30 in the Fraserwood Hall, Fraserwood, Manitoba. "Ride on" -Ronald Sandquist NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Dear Tobie...I am so sorry to hear about Ron. Even though we lost touch over the years you were still in my heart and I thought of you often. I was with Pam and Heather when Donna and Sue sent us this terrible news. I am not able to make the celebration of Ron's life but I will be thinking of you and your children as you say goodbye to him. If you're ever in Winnipeg please look me up. - Posted by: Debbie Publicover (Giesbrecht) (Friend of Tobie's) on: Aug 30, 2016

  • He was a man of integrity! His family was his life. He traded in his harley and truck for his beautiful wife Tobie and set out to start a family. If ever a MAN I've known, Indeed he is! I'll forever miss you my brother. - Posted by: Susan Amatuzio (Sister) on: Aug 26, 2016

  • We are so sorry to hear about the passing of Ron. He was an amazing guy, so glad we got to know him. You take care of each other. Ron and Tobie raised such wonderful children who he loved very much. Can't miss out the very important grandchildren too. Tobie, remember at your little yellow cottage I called him Archie Bunker? He seemed to have an answer to every question. I believed him whether he was right or wrong. - Posted by: Cheryl and Dave Timmerman (friends) on: Aug 25, 2016
