Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD TERRANCE SANDSTROM January 22, 1934 - August 31, 2016 With broken hearts we said goodbye on August 31 to Ron, a husband, father, grandfather and friend. Ron passed suddenly doing what he loved, in a place he loved, surrounded by people he loved. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Naida; daughter Nancy (Denis); sons Paul (Lorraine), Stephen (Marni) and his precious grandchildren: Teslin, Alison, Emma, Andrea and Austin. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Stella (1984) and Austin (2000). Ron grew up in St. Vital and attended Glenlawn Collegiate where he excelled as a Basketball player leading the "Lions" to several championships. While in high school Ron won the heart of a girl who was to become his lifelong partner, and on September 29, 1956 Ron and Naida married. Ron and Naida would eventually move to Regina where he began his career and they would begin their family. Ron loved being a father and took tremendous pride in his children's accomplishments both big and small. He guided his three children by example with a gentle hand and a consistent moral compass, values which he also passed on to his grandchildren. Through dedication and exceptional work ethics, Ron made his way up from the mailroom to become a vice-president of one of Canada's largest insurance companies. Ron was a man of integrity and was greatly respected in the industry, forming many friendships with colleagues whom he remained close to throughout his life. Over the decades, Ron and Naida travelled the world together enjoying adventures and making many new friends. However, it was the family cottage located on an island on the Winnipeg River that was his favourite spot on the planet. In 1979, Ron and Naida bought a little piece of wilderness in Northwestern Ontario and over the course of 37 years created what would become the family's most cherished meeting place. Ron treasured the time he spent there with family, friends and in particular his grandchildren, whether it was fishing, exploring, swimming, or simply sitting as a family talking and laughing while watching the sun set over the river. Ron was always ready to lend a hand and as a result formed great relationships with neighbours who would become part of his "extended cottage family." Ron remained exceptionally active right to the end of his life, chopping next year's firewood, fishing and puttering about doing repairs and maintenance. Dad....you have given us the greatest gift a father can give his children and grand-children....you have always believed in us. With an unwavering conviction and without judgment, you made certain we knew we were the most important part of your life. Thank-you to family and friends for all of your love and support over the past week. In particular, Ron's family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the first responders who were there when we needed you most: Amanda Adams-Fryatt, Glen and Matthew Fryatt, Judy and Stephanie Bourne, Don McClennan, Greg and Kimberly Curtis, and finally the Kenora paramedics and Ontario Provincial Police. A Memorial Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, 881 Autumnwood Drive, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

My deepest sympathies to Mrs. Sandstrom, Paul and the rest of the family. Mr. Sandstrom was always a gracious host, especially at the family cottage. He always showed a keen sense of humour with a lot of our antics, growing up. My thoughts are with you all, Ron - Posted by: Ron Enberg (Friend) on: Sep 09, 2016

Nancy, Denis and Family, you are in our thoughts during this difficult time. Your dad was always very kind to us whenever we saw him and your mom. We have some happy memories of 'happy hour' either at their cottage or Mark & Tannis's. We are so terribly sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Shawna & Larry Klassen (Friend) on: Sep 09, 2016
