HANS JACKSTEIT Hans Jacksteit, gifted craftsman, intrepid traveler and devoted family man went to be with his Lord and Savior September 4, 2016. He was 95 years old. Hans was predeceased by Lydia (Bakun) his wife of 67 years, and Jacqueline Park, wife of two years, his son-in-law Eric Patzer and grandson Justin Magnusson. He will be greatly missed by his children, Trudy, Al (Pat), Tammy (Michael); grandchildren, Kevin (Leona), Dean (Erika), Mark (Andrea), Carla, Robert (Karen), Rebecca (Tom), Catherine, Aubray, Jordan (Kayleigh), Marissa, Jared; great-grandchildren, Anna-Maria, Katarina, Eliza, Ella, Aiden, Alex, Anya, Jonah, Toby, Eden, Brennan and Brynn. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Tabea Hart; numerous nephews and nieces and many friends. At the age of one, he immigrated, with his family, from Germany to Rochester, NY. When Hans was eight, he moved with his mother and father to the new settlement of Minitonas, MB where his father established a NAB German church. As a young boy Hans became instrumental in homesteading the family farm. These early years sparked a "can do" attitude and approach to life. He went on to earn his electrician's license and was involved in various entrepreneurial projects. He designed and built four homes, various camping trailers and anything else that tickled his fancy. In 1941 he married Lydia, his loving wife and right-hand in all his endeavors throughout their 67 years of marriage. His later years were enriched by the many joint interests and shared companionship with Jackie during their all too brief marriage. He will be remembered for his strong faith and personal relationship with Christ, his love and dedication to family, his sense of curiosity, his passion for travel and adventure as well as his fondness for a good chat over a cup of coffee. Home at last Dad (Grandpa), thank you for a lifetime of precious memories. The family would like to thank the staff of CD1of Riverview for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Whyte Ridge Baptist Church (Memo: Building fund) or Cancer Care. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Dear Al and Trudy, I met Hans about 9 years ago, just as we passed through Canada. He was such an interesting and vibrant man, even then in his mid-80's. The type of man you wished you could know better, and realized what a vibrant life he must have had, and what a kind-hearted soul he seemed to be. My father passed this last year, and I know you must miss Hans dearly. It is a deep ache. I just wanted to express my deepest sympathies, and to let you know I grieve with you for the loss of these kind and self-sufficient men of their generation. Regards - Cheryl - Posted by: Cheryl Campbell (David Heberling's Wife) on: Sep 13, 2016

  • Sincere sympathy, Trudy and family. We have such good memories of the Jacksteit family from years gone by in Minitonas. Your Dad was one of those "pillars of the church and community". - Posted by: Ernie & Shirley Fishbook () on: Sep 10, 2016
