CHARLES WILLIAM MCCORMICK Charles William McCormick of Winnipeg passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital Winnipeg on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the age of 78 years. Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Joan of 53 years; daughter Susan and husband Ward; sons, Christopher (Lyndsay), Jason (Brittney) and Michael (Tracey and step-son Austin); daughter Rhonda and Darren; son Jamie (Tayler); son Randy and Karen (step-children Gracie and Kennedy). Charlie is also survived by his sisters, Edie and Muriel; brother-in-law, Peter; sister-in-law, Irene; brother-in-law, Rae; Jim (Brenda); sister-in-law Judy (Gord). As well, his special cousin, Rusty, who was like a brother. He is also survived by many close cousins, nieces and nephews. Charlie is predeceased by his parents, brothers, (Alexander, Lawrence and Donald) sisters, (Margaret, Roberta and Blanche), brothers-in-law, (Hank, Hartley, Gord and George), sister-in-law, (Julia). He is also predeceased by his mother-in-law Alice and her husband Henry Studer. Charlie was born in February 1938 in Wapella, Saskatchewan to Alexander and Mary Anne McCormick and was the youngest of nine siblings. When his parents passed away early in his life, Charlie lived with his Uncle Malcom and Aunt Sara, until moving in with his sister, Edie and brother-in-law, Hank Klatt. He then relocated to Regina to attend Campion College in 1957. Charlie started his career with Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in 1959, where he was employed until his retirement in 1998. Through his employment with CPR, Charlie worked in many small towns and stations across Saskatchewan and Manitoba. While working in Souris, Manitoba, Charlie met the love of his life, Joan Shurvell. They were married on October 12, 1963 and enjoyed 53 years together. They were blessed with three wonderful children; Susan, Rhonda and Randy. Charlie was transferred to Brandon in 1971 where they raised their family. He was then transferred in 1984 to Winnipeg, where they have resided for the past 32 years. Chuck and Joan' have made many lifelong friends through the years, becoming neighborhood favorites on the small bay which they live. Charlie loved taking annual road trips to Arizona and Nevada with Joan, where they made many more friends. In addition to their many wonderful retirement vacations, Charlie also loved to travel with Joan to the East and West Coast of both Canada and the United States where they share many happy memories together. Above all else, Charlie's favorite thing to do in life, was spend quality time with his family. His sense of humor and fast wit is something that everyone who met Charlie will always remember him for. As per Charlie's wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private family graveside service is planned for a future date at St. Andrews Church in Wapella, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, The Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital or a charity of your choice.   • My deepest condolences to Joan and her family. Charlie used to come into th Hydro office on Taylor to pick Joan up from work. He always smelled fantastic!
