ALCANTARA May 21, 1959 - September 13, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved sister, mother, and dear friend, on Tuesday, September 13, at the age of 57 years. She was predeceased by her father, Anastacio Jr.; and grandmother, Teodora. She will always be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her mother, Gloria; brothers, Anastacio III, Enrique, Claro, Dino and his wife Jennifer; and daughter, Jessica; along with countless other family and friends who were blessed to know her. Gisela was born on May 21, 1959, in Manila, Philippines. She lived with her family in Quezon City until 1971, when they immigrated to Canada and settled in Kenora, Ontario. After graduating high school from Beaver Brae Secondary School, Gisela moved to Winnipeg to complete her post-secondary education. The rest of the family eventually relocated to Winnipeg as well. Gisela enjoyed exploring the city, gardening, music, the arts, shopping, travel, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. Gisela's family would like to give special mention and thanks to the WFPS, WPS, Health Sciences Centre, and Chapel Lawn for their compassion and professionalism. Family and friends are invited to attend a Lamay (wake) on Friday, September 23, 2016 from 6:00pm to 11:30pm, and a memorial service on Saturday, September 24 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to United Way of Winnipeg, The Heart & Stroke Foundation, or CancerCare Manitoba. My deepest sympathy Jessica for the loss of your mother. I enjoyed having her as a neighbor for the last 10 years. Your mother was a beautiful, quiet soft spoken woman with a gentle soul. When I was on holidays this summer I had a great chat with your mom, and we talked about all her flowers on her balcony, and her little special plants, she shared the love of her pearl necklace, and most of all how proud she was of you. My deepest condolences to the family. I met Gisela (or Gizzy as we called her) when we worked at Royal Trust. My fondest memory was when we were at her house and her bother Dino and his friends were there...we 'partied' a bit and sang U2 songs while someone recorded us! I have many fond memories hanging out with Gizzy and the rest of the girls from Royal Trust. We lost touch many years ago, but I've never forgotten her. She was a great friend, very sweet and very caring. She was a gentle soul who brought much happiness and friendship to all of us....I wish the family peace and strength as you go thru this tough time. My deepest condolences to the entire family. It was a shock to hear such sad news. Gisela was such a sweet and kind lady. I only got to know her after I joined the same team with her. She was always ready to help with the extra load whenever she was asked. I very much appreciated her for that. She will be greatly missed.
