NELLIE REMPEL Peacefully, on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Kildonan Personal Care Centre, Nellie Rempel passed away at the age of 94 years. Left to cherish her memory are her children: son Brian (Elaine) Rempel; daughters Sharon (Donald) Bretecher, Marilyn (Wayne) McLeod, and Grace Spencer (Harry Privette); son Greg Rempel; grandchildren: Angela (Andy) Biddle, Dave (Allie) Rempel, Madeleine Bretecher, Tracy (Rakesh) Tailor, Karen (Cam) Popowich, Colin McLeod, and Kyle McLeod; great-grandchildren Aidan and Zachary Biddle, Eva Rempel, Kieran Tailor, Aubrey and Cole Popowich; brothers Lawrence, Harvey, Jerry, and Irwin Topnik; sisters Rose Rempel, Ruby Steffan, and Evelyn Humenuik; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nellie was predeceased by her husband Henry; daughter-in-law Irene Rempel; brothers Henry, Edwin, and Alfred Topnik; and sisters Etta Scheske, Thelma Gurr, and Iris Masteler. Nellie married Henry in 1945. They started their life together on a small farm in Greenwald, Manitoba and then moved to Fairfield, Manitoba in 1955, where they operated a general store and gas station. They moved to Ashern in 1962 and then moved to Winnipeg in 1963. Nellie was a long time member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church prior to joining the congregation at Grace Lutheran Church. Nellie volunteered with the women's league at St. Mark's, hospital visitations, and Meals on Wheels. Nellie had many interests: sewing, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, puzzling, and reading. Her musical talents included playing the piano and the organ - hymns were a favourite of hers. Visitation and Prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 22 at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Highway. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 23 at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Avenue. Pallbearers will be grandsons David Rempel, Colin and Kyle McLeod, grandsons-in-law Andy Biddle, Rakesh Tailor, and Cam Popowich. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters Angela Biddle, Madeleine Bretecher, Tracy Tailor, and Karen Popowich, and granddaughter-in-law Allie Rempel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Kildonan Personal Care Centre for their kindness and care over the last five years. Rest in peace, dear Mother.
