JANIS GAY FERGUSON (nee HUNT) August 24, 1944 - September 3, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved aunt and cousin, Janis Ferguson. Born August 24, 1944, Janis lived in Winnipeg her entire life, growing up in Wildwood Park. After receiving her teacher's training at the University of Manitoba Janis married Frank Ferguson in 1972. Despite experiencing many hardships, Janis was known for her giant heart and capacity for kindness. She was a devout Christian and a regular volunteer at various charities. A talented crotcheter, joke-teller and devoted family historian, Janis had a gift for making people laugh and feel loved - particularly children. Janis also loved her dogs. They were like family to her and provided unconditional companionship to her throughout her life. Janis was the last surviving member of her immediate family, predeceased by her brother Stephen (1955); father Gordon (1974); sister Linda (1977); husband Frank (1979) and mother Beryl (1989). She will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews and their families, as well as many other extended family and friends. A celebration of Janis' life will take place at Trinity Baptist Church, 549 Gertrude Avenue, on Friday, September 30, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janis' honour to the Winnipeg Humane Society, or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. I am sorry to hear of Janis' passing. I will always remember her coming up behind me to share a joke. She was always up it seemed and never complained. Truly a sad loss. - Posted by: Beryl Baldwin (Friend) on: Oct 10, 2016

The last time my son and I met with Janis was 5 years ago at Polo Park, we were going for coffee at Second Cup when I heard a familiar voice and sure enough there was Janis in the hallway, we invited her for coffee where we reminisced of our time in Charleswood when we were neighbours at Shelmerdine Housing Coop where Janis lived with her beloved dogs. It was lovely to catch up with her and be reminded of the wonderful neighbour we once had. Rest in peace Janis, you were a nice friend to my son and myself, we remember you fondly. - Posted by: susan Loeppky (friend and neighbour) on: Sep 25, 2016

Janis had a heart of gold and a great sense of humour. Her big smile could light up a room. My deepest condolences to family members who are missing her. There is comfort knowing that her worldly cares are behind her, and she is in the loving arms of the dear ones who went on before. - Posted by: Carol Bradshaw Ray (Friend) on: Sep 24, 2016
