Sadly missed by his loving wife of nineteen years, Muriel, as well as by his children Donna (David) Sheff, Deborah (Tom) Schmidt, and Bruce (Zioliang) Yang. As well by his extended family Debbie (Earl) Smith, Blair Dunn, Arlene (Hugh) Cook, Allen (Wendy) Dunn, and grandchildren Heather (Dru), Richard (Leanne), Kathleen (Kurtis), Fraser, Lauren, Alix and Riley. Born in Sudbury to Jack Barton and Ellen (Bouzane) McIsaac, Bruce grew up in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec before joining the RCAF at age 18. The following year he met his future wife Ann Tesarski at a dance in Portage la Prairie. They were married for forty years and raised six children together before she passed away in 1992. Bruce's military career spanned 36 years as a supply technician. He was posted to Portage-la-Prairie, Aylmer and Ottawa, in addition to serving with the United Nations in Egypt and Israel. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1986 in Winnipeg. He was the statistician for the Winnipeg Jets for approximately 8 years retiring in January of 1994. Never one to sit back and relax, Bruce was a proud Freemason since 1957. He joined the Khartum Shrine in the fall of 1994, joining the Flag Patrol Unit and later became Chief of Staff for approximately 8 years ending in December 2015. He was a very active member of the St. James Legion holding various seats on the executive over the years, including President for 2 terms. It was at the Legion that he first met Muriel Dunn and, after years of tiresome courtship, he finally convinced her to marry him in 1997. Bruce and Muriel spent many happy years together, travelling, wine-making, doing charitable work and enjoying family. Bruce was kind, funny and unusually stubborn man. His larger-than-life presence will be missed by many and forgotten by few. The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff at Riverview Palliative Care Centre and the Home Care Staff for their excellent care during his illness. A Celebration of Bruce's Life will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 2:00pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Donations in Bruce's memory may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital, Transportation Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715
