Date of Passing: Sep 27, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH LOUISE PILLER (nee CARR) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth Piller on September 27, 2016 at the age of 81. Ruth was the third child of George and Mary Carr, born on December 11, 1934 in Grenfell, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 45 years, Alvin Piller. Ruth will be lovingly remembered and missed by her four children and their spouses: Carol Barry (Jim), Susan Daun (Kelly), Curtis Piller (Carol), Steven Piller (Janice); grandchildren: Mathew (Gabriela), Michael (Michelle), Colin, Lauren and great-granddaughter Hannah. Also left to mourn her loss are many friends including longtime friend Mary Sarlas and family. Everyone loved Ruth; she was a kind and gentle soul who lit up the room with her smile. First and foremost Ruth was a Mom, Grandmother and Great-grandmother. Mom loved children and was always happiest with a baby in her arms. Ruth was a stay at home mom who was always there for her family. She will be fondly remembered for her beautiful afghans and delicious homemade cinnamon buns and cookies. Ruth volunteered at the Spence Thrift Shop, a community project and Social Enterprise of Pregnancy and Family Support Services. At the age of 60 Ruth began practicing Taoist Tai Chi. She enjoyed this activity immensely for 20 years. She spoke often of all the wonderful friendships she enjoyed during this time, and of how much fun she had. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael West and his team, the staff at the Health Sciences Centre, the staff at the PANSU unit at Grace Hospital, the team at CancerCare Manitoba, Grace Hospital staff, the staff at WRHA Palliative Care Program, Grace Hospice staff and volunteers, all of the Home Care workers and employees at Sturgeon Creek II and the staff at Easy Street. The amount of love and support that Mom received from the many health care professionals during her two year journey with brain cancer was nothing short of miraculous. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, 620 Colborne Street, Suite 301 London, Ontario N6B 3R9, 1-800-265-5106, or to a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Pastor Bruce Martin officiating.
