Ralph Ogilvie Robertson, B.A., M.D., (FRCS) Canada & United Kingdom January 12, 1927 - October 4, 2016 Lovingly remembered, Ralph Ogilvie Robertson passed away peacefully at Selkirk General Hospital on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, with his family by his side. Ralph was born in Selkirk, Manitoba, the eldest of five children, to John and Agnes (Nan) Robertson. He is survived by his wife Edna (nee MacLean) of 57 years from Reading, England, daughter Elizabeth and partner Percy, son Ian and wife Pamela, grandchildren Jennifer, Jordan, Maclean, Victoria, and Tabitha, sisters Suzanne Greer (Larry) and Diane Fiebelkorn (the late Leonard), brothers Jack (Evelyn) and Doug (Tony), and 14 nieces and nephews. Ralph loved everything Scottish - the island, its history, old churches and castles and its Presbyterian Kirk. For nearly 20 years, he played the organ at his beloved church, Knox Presbyterian, followed by 6 years at St. Clements Anglican Church. Ralph attended Queen's University, first receiving his Arts degree, then later, his degree in medicine. He completed his post-graduate training at Oxford, England. Ralph started his private practice in Selkirk in 1961 and was one of the founders of the Selkirk Medical Clinic. He loved medicine and was a dedicated physician for many years. Following his retirement from private practice, he worked for Manitoba Health for a number of years. Edna was at Ralph's side for 57 years, supporting his career and raising their family. During the last years of his life, her unwavering love and dedication to Ralph's wellbeing was unparalleled. The family thanks all those who have been involved in the compassionate care provided in his last few years, including friends, neighbours, the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Selkirk General Hospital, and the staff with Manitoba Home Care. A celebration of Ralph's life will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 341 Eveline Street, Selkirk, Manitoba on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Knox Presbyterian Church. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Dr. Robertson delivered me! He was our family's physician for many years. Audrey & uncle Cliff (Amundson) were close family friends. They grew up together. Anytime Cliff returned to Manitoba, his trip would not be complete without a visit with Ralph to discuss medicine or reminisce. I especially enjoyed his musical abilities. He will be missed. Our thoughts & prayers go out to the Robertson family. Janie (Dan & Aynsley) - Posted by: Janie Goodman Hygaard (Knox member&family friend) on: Oct 07, 2016

  • My deepest sympathies. I grew up at Knox, and Dr. Robertson was a large part of my childhood. Always ready to offer a smile and a hello, he was a true gentleman. - Posted by: Dorie Kell () on: Oct 06, 2016
