Dodie was a special person to me as I have known him since we were teens. I’ve known him as a caring, thoughtful and respectful person. A loving and responsible son to his parents and a caring brother to his siblings. We have shared good memories together for he was my first love. We used to be casted in doing movies together with my late mother (Estrella Kuenzler). I remember those time he taught me how to swim while teasing me getting drawn in the water. He was so playful and humorous person. But unfortunately we lost contact with each other when he left for Canada. I got anxious when he suddenly showed up in my dreams. I tried to contact him and keep in touch to catch up like good old friends as we were and to ask for his forgiveness for what had happened in the past. But when I heard the news of him passing I was extremely shocked and deeply saddened. I am regretful not being able to say how sorry I am. One thing is for sure, you will truly be missed by many for you have been a good person with a beautiful soul. My sincere condolences to your family even though it may seem a bit late. I offer my prayers for you in heaven and will keep remembering you always for you have a special place in my heart. ‘Til we meet again.. - Posted by: Florence Bettgen (Special someone) on: Aug 17, 2019

To the family, my thoughts are with you in your time of need. I worked with Rod since 2010. The very moment he introduced himself, I realized this would be one of the nicest people I would ever meet. Rod truly lived up to this, not only with me but with other co-workers and especially the clients he worked with. We have lost one of the best and far too soon. To all who are mourning and may you find peace and contentment. Hold Rod in your heart and he will live forever. Betty Smith. - Posted by: Betty Smith (Co-worker) on: Oct 08, 2016

I swam with Rod for several years when we were both members of the Manitoba Masters Aquatic Club. Although I only knew him from our short breaks between laps or at our occasional club social events it was very clear to me that Rod was a genuinely kind and gentle man. Always smiling, always friendly, Rod made everyone's day brighter and a lot more fun. To those who knew him well, and especially to his family, his sudden passing must be a terrible loss. My sincere condolences to his family and to all that were close to him. - Posted by: Chris Harrington (Acquaintance) on: Oct 07, 2016

Rod was a long time swimmer with Manitoba Masters Aquatic Club. His swim mates will miss him dearly. Rod was always a delight to swim with. Once during swim practice, I stopped on the rope, and Rod quickly engaged me and ask what was wrong. When I replied just a leg cramp, he whipped out his pull buoy to offer me assistance - even in the water he was a gentleman. - Posted by: Linda Baylis (swimmer friend) on: Oct 06, 2016

I am shocked to hear of Rod's passing. He and I were members of Masters Swimming and swam together Saturday mornings for years. We met on three occasions just this past month. He was such a positive presence, greeting everyone warmly and bidding everyone farewell when he left. I will long remember his warm smile. He was younger than me but we shared many stories about our children. He really loved his four and although I never met his family, I knew how proud he was of them. My condolences to his family. I am sure you will miss him greatly and so will we. - Posted by: Wayne Selby (Friend and fellow swimmer) on: Oct 06, 2016

I met Rod about 3 yrs ago when I started bringing people to Seven Oaks, he welcomed me like I was family and we have been friends ever since. He was the kindest man I have ever met, always offering coffee and his helping hand if needed. He will be dearly missed, he touched the hearts of so many people. As a long term co-worker of Rod's, although not from the same department; it was an absolute pleasure to see Rod on duty. Rod was always so very welcoming to everyone, regardless of who they were. I can certainly say that Rod and I always exchanged friendly greetings with a handshake; a pat on the back and a welcome and warm exchange of stories usually about cycling in which Rod was so very passionate about and given that he rode his bike to work every day seasonally. Rod had a very impressive impact upon people as he was so vividly caring about others and it evident that Rod was the epitome of a people person. Rod brought out the best in people and truly impacted those who came in contact with. The absolute shocking, sudden loss of Rod has shaken the working staff of the hospital very hard and many struggle to understand as to how this could be possible to suddenly lose someone who was so full of life and so very healthy. Rod taught many of us to enjoy life to the fullest as he did so on daily basis as he led by example. I will always remember Rod arriving to work on his road bike at 06:00 as we warmly greeted each other as I departed from shift and he arrived for the day. Rod will be warmly remembered and greatly missed as his departure leaves a massive void at the hospital. Rest easy, Rod. - Posted by: Dave Carnochan (Co-Worker) on: Oct 06, 2016
