ELIZABETH HANSELL
Born: Jan 12, 1965
Date of Passing: Sep 29, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH HANSELL January 12, 1965 - September 29, 2016 Liz died in hospital Thursday evening September 29, 2016. About six months ago she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, but was offered excellent palliative care which bought her some quality time. Her strength, determination and dignity over the last several months have been an inspiration to her family and many friends. Liz is survived by her daughter, Meg Hansell (Grant Cook) of Lake Cowichan, B.C., her partner Howard Felgate, her father Roger Hansell Q.C., and siblings Thor (Nada), Stef Cupeiro (Paul) and Jane Hansell (Charles Dawes). Her nieces and nephews Tate, Alex and Reid Cupeiro, and Jocelyn, Gillian and Thomas Hansell, will forever miss their "Auntie Liz". She was predeceased by her mother Nora in 1997. Liz grew up in River Heights, where she attended Robert H. Smith, River Heights and Kelvin schools. She was a good athlete and enjoyed many sports growing up, including speed swimming, speed skating and soccer. She made many lifelong friends during her school years. Summers were spent at the family cottage at Granite Lake, Ontario, a place Liz loved. She was especially happy for the time she was able to spend there this past summer with family and friends. Liz worked in the restaurant industry for a few years before moving on to a long career in real estate. Liz moved to Somerset Avenue in Fort Garry more than twenty years ago, where she made many close friends. She loved the area, and enjoyed taking her dog Ziggy (and Granite and Beamer before that) for long walks along the river. About four years ago Liz had the good fortune to meet Howard at a golf tournament. It didn't take long for their relationship to develop. Their time together was short, but Liz was truly happy. Howard quickly became part of Liz's family, who are extremely grateful for his love and devotion to Liz, which was unwavering during the last few difficult months. The family would also like to thank Liz's many friends who have been a source of great comfort to her, especially Mary and Greg. A celebration of Liz's life will be held on Sunday, October 16 at the Pony Corral Restaurant, 1700 Pembina Hwy, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. As those who know Liz would expect, dress is casual.
