JOHN (JACK) STEPHEN BROWN August 16, 1920 - October 3, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife Mary, parents John and Jessie Brown, sisters Anne and Mary, and brothers Edward and Harold. Left to treasure his memory are children: Leslie (Marilyn), Myrna (Jerry) and Valerie; grandchildren: Marnie (Norm), Les (Jennifer), Bradley (Shawna), Darren (Monique), Sean, and Lacey (Melvin); 10 great-grandchildren; sister Margaret Brown, and many nieces and nephews. Dad was raised on a farm in the South Ridge District near Portage la Prairie. At the age of 15 he left home and travelled to Oshawa, Ontario where he found work. During the Second World War from 1942 to 1945 he served with the RCAF. He was stationed at Brandon where he served as an AERO Engine Mechanic. There he met and married Mary McCulloch and moved to Winnipeg to start their life together. Dad worked for the City of Winnipeg as a Supervisor with the Street Sweeper Division until his retirement in 1984. Outside of work Dad was an avid bowler and curler as well as a member of the Independent Order of Foresters where he served as High Chief Ranger for four years. Dad's pride and joy were his grandchildren, he spent many hours boating and fishing with them at Sportsman's Corner Campground. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment to follow. Donations in John's memory may be made to: The War Amps of Canada. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Jack Brown was one of the very first people we met at Sportsman's Corner Campground in the spring of 2010. As we looked out at the river he told us we were safe from flooding that year - and he was right. Every spring I think about Jack and what he would tell us about the river! We've missed him since he left the campground and we will still think about him and his family now that he has passed. We are deeply sorry for your loss! - Posted by: Andy & Diana Larkin (Sportsman's Corner Campground) on: Oct 16, 2016

  • Our Deepest Sympathy To Mr. Brown's Family. Truly such a wonderful, caring man. We met Mr. Brown at FDL where is cared for his wife. What a lovely husband he was always there for her. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this most difficult time. - Posted by: Steve and Wendy Mestrovic and Families (Friends) on: Oct 10, 2016
