Condolences & Memories (18 entries)

  • My sincere condolences to Muriel and family on the passing of Nick. We were close friends for many years and were in the wedding party of each others Marriage. Nick and I were stationed together in Morris, Manitoba for 5 years in the early sixties and remained in contact ever since then. Nick was a true gentleman and will be sorely missed. - Posted by: R.h. (Dick) Waller (Friend and fellow member of the RCMP (Retired)) on: Oct 26, 2016

  • We met Nick in 1959 upon his arrival at Morris, Manitoba to be the third member of the RCMP Detachment. So Nick and I did many patrols together. He became an immediate and forever friend. A memory that stands out is his first visit to our humble residence for a Friday evening dinner where we had a meat roast for the main course. Nick forgot that his faith called for no meat on Fridays until after he ate it. Another Friday he arrived with a tin of salmon for dinner. We had the pleasure of being part of the wedding party. What a wonderful couple they were and have been always. Muriel we are most saddened by your loss. Love you and pray for you. • Sincere condolences to Dean and Deb, and the entire Schrader family. Nick was the JP for my first wedding and a fellow parishioner of my parents (Vianney-deceased & Evelyn Gauthier) at Holy Family. Silver hair, good humored, and a twinkle in his eye is how I remember Nick. Hugs all around. - Posted by: Sheila Webster (Friend) on: Oct 19, 2016

  • Nick's passing was brought to my attention by a mutual friend, Mr. Ed Paulishyn. I, myself, worked with Nick for a few years back in the '80's at Jacuzzi Canada where Nick was a sales representative. He was always full of life and did everything at a quick pace, he laughed big, liked everyone and would give you the shirt off his back. In the '90's he also performed my brother's marriage ceremony and was his terrific self. My sincere condolences to the family, but know that he was very well-liked and well respected. - Posted by: Carole Gauthier (Co-worker) on: Oct 14, 2016

  • Uncle Nick brought so much joy to our family. My childhood memories are filled with great times spent with Aunt Muriel, Dean, Michele and Lee. He was a special uncle, friend and person. His "legacy of love" will always be remembered in a special place in my heart. Condolences to his beautiful family, extended family and many friends. You will be greatly missed Uncle Nick. May your love shine through from above especially for your beloved Muriel. You will be greatly missed. May all the wonderful memories you blessed "all of us " with keep us strong at this difficult time. 🙏💝 - Posted by: Jacquie and Michael Woodbeck (Relative ) on: Oct 12, 2016

  • I was very saddened to hear about Nick's passing. Like my siblings, I too have many fond memories of Nick & your entire family. We were so fortunate to be your next-door neighbors & enjoy the wonderful friendship & shenanigans for many years after. Nick also presided at my marriage as he was a very special part of all our lives. My heart goes out to you Muriel & all the family. - Posted by: Carol Schmid (Hansford) () on: Oct 12, 2016

  • Dear Muriel & Family, Nick's loss leaves a big void in your lives. I remember from the time of my childhood how much my parents (Omer & Therese) loved to spend time with you. May all the memories that you have made & shared with Nick comfort you every day of your lives. You are in our thoughts and prayers as you grieve his loss and mourn his absence in your lives. - Posted by: Claudette Moquin (cousin) on: Oct 10, 2016

  • It is sad to hear about Nick's passing and all you in the family can be thankful for the memories of a fine man, still very sad though. I am one month younger than Nick and my Reg. # is within 10 of his, we were in training together at N Div. On our first Swimming drill (no swimming pool, just the Rideau River) Cpl Canning asked Nick if he had ever swam before, His reply 'Never saw anything deeper than an alkali slough' Nick had to jump in the deep water anyway. Nexr time I saw him after training was when he was 'D' Div boat man and we had quite a few drownings at Lac du Bonnet. He knew my family and kids too. Always a good sense of humour and very sociable _ think he preferred the helping part of Police work. My deepest sympathy to all left behind....Dom French - Posted by: Dominick French (Fellow troop member) on: Oct 10, 2016

  • Nick and Muriel were lifelong friends with my father Dollard and step-mom Clemence having Letellier as a common denominator. Later in life, Nick was always available to help out the 10:00 am choir with the sound board (even if his hearing was not 100%)... I personally loved his sense of humour as we both had a background in dealing with emergencies. Denise joins me in offering our sincerest condolences to Muriel and family. - Posted by: Joseph Marc Bruyere (Fellow parishoner at Holy Family church) on: Oct 10, 2016

  • We are saddened by Nick's passing. He was a man always on a mission and always with a smile. Him and his wife Muriel worked hard to help those less fortunate and in need. We were neighbors for a number of years and we couldn't have asked for better neighbors, we will never forget him and how he helped so many people. Muriel and family, you are in our prayers. - Posted by: Vonnegut and Ted Riese (Good friends) on: Oct 08, 2016

  • When I began municipal policing, Nick was a corporal with Steinbach Detachment. He was a good role model and mentor for my time in Steinbach. Through the years, he remained a good family friend. Nick will be missed. Our condolences. - Posted by: Wayne and Laraine Pierson () on: Oct 08, 2016

  • Papa Nick, a wonderful friend to my Mom and Dad along with Muriel. His smile and laughter always cheered people up. The overnight sleepovers in Steinbach and getting locked up in the jail with Mich and Lee. :) He was gracious enough to do the toast to the bride at my first wedding and it was even more special when he performed the ceremony at my second. He will forever be remembered as a kind man with a big heart and a wonderful zest for life. Muriel, Mich, Lee, and Dean, I hope your fondest memories of this very special man carry you through this difficult time. I know I will miss him dearly. Thom and I along with our family send you our heartfelt condolences. - Posted by: Linda Rock (Hansford) (Long time family friend) on: Oct 08, 2016

  • Nick and Muriel were great friends to mom and dad. I remember Nick scheming with dad to pull pranks on all their friends. I even remember Nick allowing dad to sample his Steinbach moonshine. Many laughs were shared with the whole HANSFORD clan. Our condolences to the Schrader family. - Posted by: Gary Hansford (Friend) on: Oct 08, 2016

  • So fondly remembered by the Hansford family, neighbours for several years. I smile every time I hear Nick's name as there are many fun experiences from our time on Wickham Rd. Our deepest sympathies to Muriel and the family, just know that Nick left us with great memories and being dearly loved by us all. • It saddens me very much, to read of Nick's passing. Muriel and family, God must have been planning a big due for Thanksgiving and he needed a master of ceremonies. He picked a real good one. We are all so happy to have been a part of Nick's life, a life full of good deeds for others. You all have so much to be proud of. Our Thanksgiving will be giving thanks for having known him. As for friends, he was a diamond. Beverley Bettens and Family. - Posted by: Beverley Bettens (Friend) on: Oct 08, 2016
