JOAN G. PINK (HUGHES) Peacefully, on Sunday, October 9, 2016, Joan passed away at Riverview Health Centre. Left to cherish Joan's memory are her children Ray (Berlinda), Larry and Barbara (Tim Verry); son-in-law Michael Santucci; grandchildren Ron (Jenn), Christopher and Sam; granddaughter-in-law Sophia; great-grandson Odin; sister Gwen Lonergan; and many other extended family members and friends. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband Ken, daughter Linda, grandson Michael; and by her parents Charles and Maud Hughes, brother Harry, and sisters Kathleen, Helen, Marg and Bern. Mom was born in Winnipeg on February 26, 1929, the youngest in a family of six girls. She spent her early years in the Riverview and Fort Rouge areas where she met her sweetheart Ken Pink in school and they were married shortly after in 1945. Mom and Dad enjoyed 52 happy and wonderful years of marriage raising four children, sharing much fun, music and laughter, and enjoying many trips to Europe and beyond before Dad passed on in 1998. Mom was always a warm and caring person who nurtured many long and lasting friendships over the years. She was also a wonderful cook, a fabulous seamstress and a talented china painter and ceramic artist. For 25 years she taught classes in ceramics and ran a flourishing business out of her home studio on Sharp Boulevard in St. James. In later years, upon retiring, she spent countless hours doing lovely needlework that graced the walls of her home and family. A service will be held on Tuesday, October 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment will follow, after which a gathering of family and friends will be held in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. The family wish to thank the many Home Care workers and staff at both The Westhaven and Riverview Health Centre for their care of Mom during the last few years. In lieu of flowers, anyone so desiring may make a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of their choice. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • We met Joan when we were working at The Westhaven, and she was a resident there. I had many wonderful chats with Joan as well as Barb. She will be missed.....she was a "Lovely Lady". - Posted by: Helen & Stan Franz (Friends) on: Oct 23, 2016

  • My second mum. Ma Pink! I learned so much from this beautiful, talented, smart woman. My fave thing was how proud she was to pass over her delicate tin of melting moments at Christmas time with that proud beautiful smile. Linda (her daughter) and I were the very best of friends, I was quickly invited into the family, so I got to learn how to make many things from ceramics, cookies, bird houses and electrical wiring (by Mr Pink) and the infamous jellied salads. My heart is heavy and I miss them all so very much. The memories will keep me blessed and feeling special for my lifetime. Bless you Ma Pink. • Ken and Joan and Yvonne and I went to Kelvin High School together and remained friends our entire lives. We had much laughter and many tears together over the years. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Bill Hunter (Friend) on: Oct 18, 2016

  • It was always a pleasure to walk into Mrs. Pink's home, with her daughter Linda. She always greeted us with a smile and an offer to sample one of her fabulous cookies! Joan your memory lives on as I make dozens of your famous gingersnaps every Christmas - which I call Mrs. Pink's Gingersnaps! With love and my sincerest condolences to your family.
