Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS GEORGE BENTLEY SYKES July 20, 1921 - September 28, 2016 Dad died peacefully, and is now reunited with the love of his life, his wife Joan and grandson Paul. Left with many wonderful memories are his five children, Gayle (Jim), Murray (Terry), Gillian (Garry), Valerie, Tom (Connie), 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grand-children, sister Helen and brother Harold. Dad served in the Second World War as a pilot of a Mitchell aircraft in Bomber Command overseas. He spent the majority of his career with London Life Insurance, where he pioneered "Freedom 55". After his own retirement at 55, he was able to spend more time on the golf course at Breezy Bend, where he was a founding member. He and Mum enjoyed time at the family cottage at Hillside Beach. His last years were spent at Colorado Estates and finally at Deer Lodge Hospital. We will all miss his unique brand of advice, his sense of humour and his kind and loving ways. A family burial has been arranged. Friends and relatives are invited to share in photos, stories and condolences for the family, by visiting his memorial page at www.integritydeathcare.com. If anyone wishes to make a donation, these are a few of our Dad's favourite charities: MacDonald Youth Services, Sunshine Fund (through the Winnipeg Free Press) or Winnipeg Harvest. I met your father while I was volunteering at Deer Lodge Centre and we visited together for these past few years every Wednesday morning. We shared a lot of laughs together and a lot of memories. My wife and I have been living on Assiniboine Ave. for over 40 years so we had much in common. We each told 'half truths' about our service years, he in the airforce and I in the navy. One thing that was always clear to me was Tom's integrity and his love for his family. He was a man who bought out the best in others and who expected only kindness in return. I shall miss him greatly. I saw him the morning he passed on and held his hand for awhile, I told him it was 'Bill' and he was able to squeeze my hand a little in reply. We said our goodbyes, and I was honoured to have had the opportunity to be there with him, I know he knew. Sincerely, Bill. - Posted by: William Helgason (Bill) (friend) on: Oct 22, 2016
