ROBERT ERVIN LINDSAY March 24, 1942 - October 14, 2016 Peacefully, surrounded by the people he loved the most, Bob Lindsay of Starbuck, Manitoba, passed away on October 14, 2016 at St. Boniface Hospital. He will be missed by his daughter Lorrie, sister Edna and her children Ron and John, loving partner Marlene, stepdaughter Nikki (Ryan), step-grandchildren Shealene, Ryder and Anika (who he affectionately named "Slurpee"). Bob is also remembered by many special friends: Romeo and Ellen, Herb and Denise, Shirley, Del, Orville and Doreen and many more. He was predeceased by his mother Emma, father Robert, brother Percy, and close friends Jerry, Allan and Albert. Bob was a Saskatchewan boy growing up in Radisson. He eventually found his way to Starbuck and became its most loyal supporter. He was part of an ambitious team of fundraising Starbuckians, who begged, borrowed and scrounged materials to build the Starbuck Arena. The stories of the rink parties always made him chuckle. With his friend, Albert, Bob sharpened skates regularly for many years and only retired when they had sharpened enough to pay off the sharpening machine. Bob spent a good part of his life working for the Province of Manitoba in the Highways Department, Traffic division; the Senior years spent with his protogee, Craig Lobban. "Whatever happens on the road, stays on the road", if you catch our drift. Bob was the type of person who hated being in the spotlight. He was a complex man. Bob had an incredible work ethic, was a perfectionist in whatever he did. He loved a pristine yard and kept his vehicles and lawnmower the same way. He was artistic and creative, a super cook, and "Mr. Fix-it" man. Bob enjoyed the Gospel hour, the Ray St. Germain Show on Saturdays, country music, antiques and the sound of wrens and loons. He especially loved winning a bet with Marlene against the Bombers. And under that crusty exterior was a man who cared deeply for his family, friends, neighbours and animals. *Humming Birds* The humming bird whisperer figured it was a good day when they flew in. Lorrie, Nikki and Marlene would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital Emergency and E6ME ward. The exceptional care and compassion shown by all; from registration, nurses, technicians, aides and doctors that helped Bob on this very short journey was comforting. A special thank you to Dr. McKinnon, Dr. Doucet and Dr. Eschun for their honest and heartfelt conversations. Our family invites all who would like to remember and celebrate a life well lived to join us in remembering Bob at Trinity Lutheran Church at 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 24, 2016. If you have a story to share, please take the opportunity to do so this evening. Pastor Ron Vert will be leading us through remembering Bob. If you wish to make a donation in Bob's memory, please plant a tree in your favourite place or make a donation to the Starbuck Arena Ice Maker Fund, or Winnipeg Humane Society (Specifically to the Department of Investigations and Emergency Response), 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 0R3. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Hey Lorrie, I'm so sad to hear about your dad. I had so much fun at your house when we were playing ringette together. There were so many laughs and your dad was such a joker. He was a great man. My thoughts are with you. Heather ... I know ... Frosty - Posted by: Heather Green (Friend) on: Oct 29, 2016

  • I used to have good memories of when Bob would drive his former wife and myself to several Bomber Games in Wpg. He was a very nice person and he was a hard worker too. My parents used to live next-door to him and his family. I also had a younger sister, Sherri who probably played with Lorrie & she was older than her. I'm sending my condolences to his family, especially his daughter whom I had known the most. My parents were Alma & Oscar Olson of Starbuck. - Posted by: Marlys Pearse (nee Olson) (Old friend who had lived at Starbuck long ago.) on: Oct 22, 2016

  • As a nephew I looked up to uncle Bob and he will be forever missed in my heart. He inspired me to become a "handy kinda guy" and I will always cherish the childhood memories of spending my summer holidays with uncle Bob and family. My sincere condolences.
