Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Margie and I met Dan and Nancy when they lived next to us in a small apartment in Amherstburg in 1974. We and they were recently married and we shared many days together. Dan was on a Coastguard boat that could be seen from the balconies of our apartments, even overnight while Nancy was only a stones throw away. We lost touch with them when I was transferred as a Bank employee but we will always remember Dan and Nancy, and funnily enough, we spent 5 years in Winnipeg, likely when they were there from 1993-1998, with friends we visited in Gimli. Too bad we never met up again. Nancy - we hope all is well with you and your family, and if you ever want to get in touch, please email us at doug.rouse@hotmail.com or call us at 905-304-5907. We were so sorry to hear about Dan. - Posted by: doug and margie rouse (friends in Amherstburg, ontario) on: Nov 18, 2020

  • Very saddened to hear of Dan's passing. He was my Chief Engineer on Griffon in the eighties. Dan was a very thoughtful and kind boss. He was a gentleman, and devoted family man. My sincere condolences to his loved ones. Rest in peace Dan - Posted by: Matt Cook (Shipmate) on: Nov 18, 2016

  • I've known Dan since he was a first year cadet and have worked both with him and for him. Always enjoyed his company, a good "go to guy" for professional matters and a fine gentleman. Dick Theedom - Posted by: R.C. (Dick) Theedom (colleague and friend) on: Oct 27, 2016

  • I met Dan in 1972 when I attended the Coast Guard College in Sydney. We crossed paths and sailed togeather off and on for the next 25 years. He was always a pleasant man, and a good man to sail with. I tried to recruit him in 2013 for the Arctic Research Foundation, but he was truly committed to his 'Baby', the Namao, and the work they were doing. Rest well my friend. - Posted by: Darryl Clow (Friend, shipmate) on: Oct 27, 2016

  • “We are saddened to hear the news of Dan’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and all his friends. Dan was a great friend to us and he facilitated our work with the Lake Winnipeg Research Consortium since 2006 to the highest degree. From holding shipments for our work in his garage, to bringing staff to the airport after a long cruise on Lake Winnipeg, Dan was always there. He loved that little ATON buoy tender and the engine room was one of the cleanest and well stocked engine rooms we’d ever seen. While in Gimli, Dan was our “go to guy” to rally the troops onboard, the towns folks and he even managed to borrow a fork lift from the local hardware store to move the bigger items down to the MV Namao at dockside. While on science cruises, Dan always seemed to work around the science schedule so that the Namao was dockside for game time for the Blue Bombers so we’d get the game on TV. We will keep these and other memories of Dan close to our hearts. Our deepest condolences to Nancy and the family. From your friends at Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Water Science and Technology, Klavs Davis, Niels Madsen, Alex Lisowsky, Todd Breedon, Bob Rowsell, Joe Gabriele, Cary Smith and Benoit Lalonde, Peaceful Sailing.” - Posted by: Bob Rowsell (Friend and Collegue) on: Oct 25, 2016
