Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPATRICIA ROBERTA ANDERSON (nee FAULKNER) February 18, 1921 - October 14, 2016 Patricia passed away peacefully, at the age of 95, at the Riverview Health Centre. She is survived by her two sons, Bill (Valerie) and John (Arlene), seven grandchildren, Allan, Erin, Ria, Kelly, Shane, Evan and Matthew, and nine great-grandchildren. Pat was predeceased by her husband Bob in 1979, and brother Albert in 1948. Pat was born in Winnipeg to William and Grace Faulkner in 1921. She received her early education in Earl Grey and Kelvin Schools. She registered in the first classes offered by United College Collegiate Division. In June, 1939, Pat graduated from the Collegiate with the highest academic standing in her class. Various scholarships awarded to her and earnings from part-time work at Woolworth's, Birks, Eaton's and The Bay, enabled her to complete university studies at United College. She received her BA degree from the University of Manitoba in 1942, with continuing on in the Faculty of Education. Her teaching career began in Tuelon, then at Grandin School in Fort Garry, as well as The University of Manitoba teaching Latin along with teaching various courses at the Veterans' Affairs School. In September of 1946, Pat returned to her alma mater to teach French and Latin to war veterans. One of these students was Robert Allan Anderson, whom she married in 1949. The births of sons Bill and John, and the attendant responsibilities of rearing them did not take her from the classroom completely. In the 1950s and 1960s she combined teaching and parenting to demonstrate admirably the spirit of 1980s feminism. Pat remained firmly committed to that movement. Pat's exceptional teaching ability and her compassionate concern for her students earned the affection and esteem of all who learned from her throughout the generations of United College and The University of Winnipeg. In 1975 Pat was elected Assistant Dean, in 1985 she was appointed Associate Dean and during the Dean's absence assumed the role prior to her retirement in 1987. In 1989, Pat was a recipient of fellowship in United College for distinguished services to The University of Winnipeg. Pat and Bob were long time residents of Fort Garry and members of Fort Garry United Church. They loved to travel with many trips overseas and Hawaii. After retirement, Pat continued to travel with friends, as well as many vacations with family to Hawaii. Clear Lake vacations were an annual tradition started by Bob and her in 1949, continuing to this day with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren carrying on the tradition. Above all else, Pat's family came first, especially encouraging her grandchildren to pursue their dreams and enjoy life. The family would like to extend their gratitude for the excellent care that Pat received at Riverwood Square and Riverview Health Centre where she resided in the latter years of her life. A private graveside interment has taken place, and if family and friends so desire, donations can be made in Pat's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or charity of their choice.
