BARRY DAVID JONES Suddenly on October 20, 2016, Barry passed away at Grace Hospital at age 62. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Lynn, sons Marshall and Bryce; brother Glen (Alynn); brother-in-law Wilf Falk, nephew Matt and niece Jenn; sister-in-law Nancy Ashcroft (Adrian) and niece Bronwyn; and mother-in-law Helen, as well as extended family and numerous friends, including very special friends Bill Murray (Terry) and Brian Leonard (Jan). His four-legged companions, Jynx, Maverick, and Autumn, will miss him too. He was predeceased by his parents Dave and Betty Jones, his sister Brenda Falk, and father-in-law Don (Shorty) Spillett. Barry was born in Winnipeg and grew up in South Fort Rouge, attending Lord Roberts School and then Churchill High School. He graduated from Red River College with a certificate in Commercial and Industrial Sales, and worked as a sales rep for a variety of companies over the next 25 years, including Canada Starch/Best Foods and Northern Paint. Barry and Lynn knew each other from childhood and were married in 1976. Many summer weekends were spent at West Hawk Lake and Caddy Lake. The births of Marshall and Bryce made our family complete. Family was very important to Barry and although his health forced him to retire at an early age, this afforded him the opportunity to spend more time with his boys. He especially enjoyed being able to coach or help coach their sports teams at Hastings School, Norberry Community Centre, and Dakota Collegiate. He was always so proud of their achievements, and he loved watching their games. He was an athlete in school and played a variety of sports, including hockey, football, and basketball. Golf was a long-time passion for Barry and he enjoyed many games over the years with his dad, Shorty, numerous friends, Lynn, and Marshall and Bryce. He particularly enjoyed Windsor Park, the old and new Southwood courses, and in more recent years, Wildwood. A highlight for Barry was his 1991 trip to the US Open with Shorty. For the past 20 plus years, Barry and Lynn were avid Wesmen fans and attended countless basketball and volleyball games, including several road trips as a family. Through these games, many friendships were forged, including a very special one with B.J. York (Kristi, Evan, and Jordan). Barry was so incredibly proud when Marshall joined the Wesmen volleyball team. Barry was known for his love of cars and especially for wanting to shop for a new one every few years. Although he had a great sense of humour and loved to share jokes with friends, he was never very good at remembering the punchline, but that was part of his charm. For the past few years, he always looked forward to an annual winter vacation in Mexico - how he loved the blue water of the Caribbean! A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Wesmen Athletic Scholarship Fund, c/o The University of Winnipeg Foundation, 515 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2E9, or to a charity of their choice. The family expresses sincere appreciation to the various medical personnel who have taken care of Barry over the past 20 plus years, and in particular to the Good Samaritan who performed CPR at McMunn and Yates, and to the medical personnel and paramedics who looked after him last Thursday. We would also like to thank our family and friends for all the love and support (and food) during this difficult time. There are no words that could adequately express how much you all mean to us.
