DOROTHY MATSKO (nee MOROSKI) 1930 - 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Matsko in the early hours of October 25, 2016 at the age of 86. She is survived by her son Larry, daughter-in-law Margot, grandchildren Kelsey and Reid, sisters Nellie, Rose and Kay, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her love of her life, husband Fred, two infant children, parents Harry and Mary Moroski, brothers Pete and Sam, sisters Alice and Anne, and her in-laws Frank and Nellie Matsko. Dorothy was born on August 20, 1930 in Geysir, MB and attended Geysir School. She talked about the difficulties and the fun times growing up in that era. In 1949, she married Fred Matsko and they enjoyed each others' company for 53 years until his passing in 2002. Her outlook on life changed forever after his passing. Throughout her entire life she was an untiring hard worker, whether it was caring for the cattle, milking cows, making and hauling hay or in the later years, working for catering firms in the area. She was also an avid gardener with a green thumb. Her vegetables were always abundant and her flower beds filled with beautiful blooming flowers. Dorothy was also a great cook; no wonder the catering firms employed her! Guests to her home always left with a full stomach. She had the ability to create very tasty Ukrainian dishes, as well as other ethnic foods. Finger size cabbage rolls, petite perogies, fresh homemade bread and dill pickles were only a few of her specialties. She was a very generous and caring person who loved children, especially her own grandchildren upon whom she doted unashamedly. The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Red River Place, Selkirk, Manitoba for their care of Dorothy for the past four years. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Riverton Lutheran Church with interment at the Jaroslaw Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
