CONSTANCE (CONNIE) LOUISE FRIDFINNSON Constance Louise Fridfinnson (Connie) passed away peacefully at her home October 24, 2016. She is survived by her loving mother Grace Fridfinnson; daughter Cathie Crossin (Harry) of Brandon; son Keith Dowler (Amra) of Winnipeg; brothers, Barry of Edmonton, Lance (Mandy), Robert (Ana) Fridfinnson; sister Tamie Archer (Chris) and dear friend Gord Zaharia all of Winnipeg. Connie was predeceased by her beloved father Leifur Fridfinnson. Connie was a devoted mother, daughter, auntie and amma. Every phone call was an update on grandchildren Riley, Calder or Tina. She anxiously awaited Keith and Amra's soon to be born new addition. Connie was born January 8, 1951 in the Arborg Memorial Hospital. She attended Little Mountain School in Chilliwack, Arborg Elementary and Arborg Collegiate. She was a bright, popular girl excelling in sports, particularly figure skating. Arborg's biggest annual event was the Ice Carnival and at age 15 Connie headlined as the Sugar Plum Fairy. Connie met Brian (Captain B.V. Dowler) while working at the Gimli AFB. Sparks flew followed by marriage, a mobile air force lifestyle and Cathie and Keith. They were stationed in Ottawa, Barrington Passage, Cold Lake and finally Winnipeg. While in Winnipeg Connie worked as a dental assistant and later for CAA. Connie was the consummate homemaker and prided herself in her clean welcoming home. She was a survivor beating three bouts with cancer. It was an unexpected stroke in 2011 that finally slowed her down. You'd never know it by talking to her on the phone as she was as feisty and passionate about life, as ever with her quick wit and quick temper. Connie couldn't do enough for family and friends. Any extra money was spent on gifts to brighten someone's day. She will be very sadly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. As per her wishes, there will only be a small private family service. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • To my dear Fridfinnson family, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Connie as a young adult and mother. When I was young and my father liked to go his family summer road trips and "surprise" family, he always made sure to incorporate a visit with Connie when she was stationed in Ottawa and out east with her husband and young children. I remember how young and happy my beautiful cousin was then and so content and proud to be a mom. Distance and circumstance meant I did not keep and touch and get to know her better but I will forever have those happy memory snapshots to remember her by. - Posted by: Eileen Tepsa (Cousin) on: Nov 01, 2016

  • I met Connie in the mid 70's when she appeared at my door days after our arrival in Barrington Passage, N.S. calling out "Hey, I hear there is finally another Goolie in town!". We were instant friends and we spent that year together running the roads in her Viking Motors Grand Prix with Cathie and baby Keith happily enjoying new adventures in the back seat. I'll always remember popping in to visit her house in Port Latour while she was busily renovating including carpentry and plumbing! I missed her when they were posted after just a year but we have kept in close touch for the last 40 years and we saw each other often- she visited us many times as we moved around Canada including a trip back to Barrington after our retirement. And of course she always came down to Gimli when I was home,,,once getting a speeding ticket on her way down for a meal of my Mom's livrapylsa. She was a loving, caring woman always worrying about the welfare of others. Her devastating stroke 5 years ago caused her much anguish and although she never bitched or complained about her fate, she did share that she hated the social isolation and lack of independence. How she would have loved to get into her car and just GO!! She believed in an afterlife and I know she is out there somewhere without physical limitations and once again enjoying herself. We ended each evening phone call or text with a special goodnight wish, and I wish it for her one last time... 'GOTHA NOTT, ELSKAN' until we meet again. I miss you already, - Posted by: Lyn Stevens Sontag (BFF....Best Friend) on: Oct 31, 2016

  • I will remember Connie as a wonderful friend and cousin. She was very kind and always willing to lend a helping hand. Connie was a talented and capable person as well, who could tackle any project with great gusto. She truly was a beautiful person inside and out and will be missed by many. I send my condolences to family at this sad time. - Posted by: Enid Oddleifson (cousin) on: Oct 30, 2016

  • Connie was a great true friend - always thinking of others even if it was for just a quick phone call (she would always offer her time and support) even when she was having personal issues and health issues she was always thinking of others. She was very proud of her son and daughter and especially her Grandkids - always sharing their exploits. I will miss hearing the joy and pride in her voice during those conversations. My love and prayers have been and are always with you - My condolences to the entire family. - Posted by: Dan (Friend ) on: Oct 29, 2016

  • I was very saddened to read of Connie's passing. Connie and I shared a special friendship many years ago when we were teenagers, both figure skaters in our respective clubs and in the late 60's. Over the years, our lives went in different directions and we did not stay in touch with each other. I will always remember fondly, Connie's beautiful smile and her genuine friendship. Rest in peace, in the embrace of the angels. Sincerely, Margaret Lupyrypa Ogonowski. - Posted by: Margaret Lupyrypa Ogonowski (Friend) on: Oct 29, 2016
