JAMES DAVID HENDERSON Peacefully, on October 26, 2016, James David Henderson passed away at the age of 94. He will be forever missed by his beloved wife, Winnifred; his daughter, Patricia (Norm); daughter-in-law Jan; his granddaughters, Kirsten (Steven) and Tannys (Sergio); and his great-grandchildren, Willow, Soren and Asra. Jim was predeceased by his son John; his sisters, Hilda, Doris and Bertie; and his brother-in-law, Bill. Born in Winnipeg in 1922, Jim grew up on Logan Avenue. He married Winnifred Erlendson on March 8, 1947, and they enjoyed 69 years together. Jim worked for the CN Rail for 42 years. He started his career by working in the Fort Rouge and Transcona shops. After serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 to 1945, Jim returned to the CNR and completed his apprenticeship as a Carman in 1948. In 1956, he became the Apprentice Instructor at Fort Rouge. Jim was seconded by the CNR Transportation Department to assist in the establishment of the New Engine Service Department at Gimli. Later, he became involved in Management Development Training. Jim was a very kind and generous man who was admired by his family and his friends. He enjoyed going to the Gimli Legion for the camaraderie and to give back to the community. He was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time playing with them. Jim taught all of us through example: give to those in need, devote yourself to the task in front of you, learn what you don't understand, and put everyone before yourself. We'll remember those lessons forever and will miss him every day. Our family would like to thank Dr. Rhoma and all of the nurses and health care aides at Gimli Hospital for their kindness in caring for Jim. A private burial for the family will be held.
