HELMUT URBAN February 2, 1940 - October 24, 2016 Helmut Urban passed away on October 24, 2016, peacefully in his home. He was 76 years old. Helmut was born in Einbeck, Germany. In 1958 Helmut left Germany to start a new life in Canada where he met his wife of over 40 years, Maryann. Maryann and Helmut loved to travel and there was never a year where they didn't plan an excursion. Not only did they make regular trips to Germany but they also spent a great deal of time in Mexico and Helmut's favourite place to visit of all timePortugal. Helmut continued travelling until the very end and had just returned from vacationing in Cuba two weeks before his passing. He was always happiest planning, looking forward to and enjoying his time overseas. Helmut was an avid dog lover. He was interested in news and sportsespecially European Soccer or "football." He also spent many hours bicycling around the streets of Winnipeg. What he treasured more than anything else were his friends and Helmut had an easy time making them. This was because he was one of the most positive and satisfied kind of people you could ever know. If something bad happened or went wrong he would always say "Wellbetter luck next time," and carry on without ever giving up and always with a smile on his face. Helmut has left behind his nephew Dennis Urban; niece Cindy Chambers; cousin Rebecca Urban and sister Marion Grave. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday November 4, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Vital Parish, 1629 Pembina Highway. Following the service internment will take place at Thomson "In the Park" Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to attend the brief ceremony but are also welcome to stay at the church where refreshments will be available. Sandwiches will be served once the family returns from the Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Helmut's family would like to thank all of Helmut's friends who provided him with so much happiness and joy throughout his very blessed life. Thank you Helmut. You will be missed.
