SHIRLEY MAY ANGOOD November 14, 1927 - October 28, 2016 Shirley passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital after a brief illness. She is survived by her sister Wilma Lawson, daughter Marni Angood, son Peter Angood, and her granddaughters Olivia and Bryanna Angood-Hardy and their mother Janet Hardy. Also left to mourn her passing are treasured nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Wilda Juckes, a host of supportive friends and her Winnipeg family by friendship; Janice, Allan and Susan French. Shirley was the fourth child born to Bryan Juckes and Emma Alice Howden. She grew up in Hamiota along with siblings Lillian, Bettina, Winston (known as Bing), and Wilma. Her first job was in Winnipeg and a job transfer took her to Kenora where she met and married Brian Angood. After her children were born, Shirley became a stay-at-home Mom, spending summers at Coney Island with her kids. She returned to work in 1974 and built herself a career at Fine Line Communications, eventually accepting a position with the Provincial Government in the Attorney General's Department. Missing her time at Lake of the Woods, she was able to purchase a cottage on Granite Lake. This widened her circle of close friends, spending entire summers there after she retired in 1992. Shirley was a beautiful woman with a real sense of style, from a classy coif to carefully manicured nails. She was intelligent, good with language, organized, tenacious and a loyal friend who enjoyed a good laugh. She liked golfing, curling, playing bridge and watching sports and was particularly fond of owning and driving a sporty car. Cremation has taken place and a small family service will be held at a later date. Those friends who would like to gather to share memories of Shirley are invited to join others on Friday, November 4 at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd. from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Reception Centre. The family would like to acknowledge the care and kindness of Riverwood Square management and staff, especially those at Harmony Court, Strauss House. In lieu of flowers or a donation, we ask you to do a kindness for a friend. Shirley lived life on her own terms. She will be missed. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Just a note to say how deeply sorry I am to hear of Shirley's passing. She was a lovely lady and beautiful woman. I had the pleasure of speaking with Shirley several years ago when I just decided to pick up the phone and call. I am so glad I did!! We had a wonderful conversation, covering the years since I had left Winnipeg and Shirley had retired and who was doing what now. Shirley was quiet and always gracious, and very kind to me. She will be missed by her friends and forever remain in the hearts of those who truly loved her. Sidney Macaw - Posted by: Sidney Macaw (friend ) on: Nov 09, 2016

  • I'm very sorry for your loss, Marni. In my thoughts & prayers - Posted by: Kathy morrison (Marni's friend) on: Nov 02, 2016

  • Shirley was a big part of my life - many laughs, tears and then laughter again. I was so proud of Shirley - in a world before women's lib, she tried to make the world equal. She was smart, funny and always classy. Loved the picture of her (and I am sure her nails were manicured!) A very grateful thanks to her friends and especially Jannie and Ruth Anne for providing a great quality of life these past few years. Love and hugs, Helen - Posted by: Helen Gillespie (Niece ) on: Nov 01, 2016
