Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN KOERNER January 9, 1928 October 29, 2016 John passed away Saturday at the Deer Lodge Centre. He leaves behind his daughters, Angelika Strike and Christine Bain; son-in-law Don Bain; grandchildren, Jonathan, Justin (Susan) and Jordan Strike; Leah (Joel), Steven and Evan Wishanski; also great-grandchildren, Ryan, Ashley, Samantha, Hailey, Aiden and Wren; as well as nephew Werner Bausback (Sigrid) and extended family in Germany. John was predeceased by his wife Emma, who passed away earlier this year, and by his parents and his two sisters. Born and raised in Germany, he had an artist's eye and trained as a cabinet and furniture maker. In 1954, John immigrated to Canada with his family and found work as a carpenter. As his career progressed, he supervised the construction of numerous buildings and eventually, when the entrepreneurial spirit took hold, started and operated his own construction company. In retirement, John was able to pursue his artistic passion for marquetry and woodturning for several years, until failing health intervened. Our family wishes to thank the staff at Deer Lodge Centre for their care and support. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 3 at 10:00 a.m., at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., (204) 925-1120.
