HORST OCHLODA April 19, 1934 - October 28, 2016 Peacefully, on Friday, October 28, 2016, Horst passed away at Riverview Health Centre after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 82 years. Horst is survived by his five daughters, Ilona, Sylvana (Peter) Lolita (Wayne) Franziska, and Svetlana, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one stepson Paul, one brother and one sister in Berlin, Germany. Horst was predeceased by his second wife of 33 years, Wilma, in January 2008. Horst was born in Berlin, Germany. He came to Canada in May 1967, Canada's 100th birthday. Horst was a member of the German Society of Winnipeg for over 30 years. He enjoyed volunteering at the German Club for Folklorama with his wife Wilma for many years. They also volunteered out at Camp Neustadt Sommerfest. Horst was a superintendent at the Bellcrest Apartments for 40 years. He loved his job there and all his tenants, especially Lauren and Chelsey. Due to poor health he reluctantly gave up his position a year ago to live at the Edgewood Estates on Whellams Lane, where he enjoyed sitting on his balcony doing crosswords and watching the tower next door being built from bottom up. In the last few years Horst also enjoyed getting together with the guys at the Stammtisch every Saturday morning at the German Society of Winnipeg. We want to thank everyone at the Riverview Health Centre for their awesome work. There will be no memorial held for Horst, as per his wishes.
