KATHERINE CONSTANCE CHEATER (nee EINARSON) 1947 - 2016 Katherine Cheater (nee Einarson) was born in Flin Flon, MB, in 1947, a town whose very framework was built around a requirement for a very large musical presence: by none other than the philanthropic New York financier of the local mining company interest, Mr. C. V. Whitney. A piano teacher was hired to teach and to model the annual Winnipeg Music Festival in Flin Flon; meanwhile at the mine, preference went to hiring professionals and staff who could demonstrate musical training. And what a cosmopolitan venture that musical culture turned out to be! This strong musical influence shaped Kathy's path for the rest of her life. Although trained in English Lit and Religious Studies, Kathy taught piano and theory for 45 years, accompanied school choirs, church choirs, then finally took another RCM exam and became an organist/music director in her local Lutheran church. She was very proud of the work accomplished in her association with the Royal Canadian College of Organists in their local/national festivals in 2004 and 2015. Kathy was dedicated to family, in appreciation for the many gifts of family given her by her parents - a very large extended family over three generations: Icelanders, Germans, English, Irish, and Dutch. Her dedication to family led her into post-grad certificates in Marriage and Family therapy in a largely successful endeavor to understand typical family dynamics. Her own family has been a constant delight and joy. Kathy was predeceased by her parents, John and Kay Einarson. She is survived by her brothers, Larry (Gail) and Lorne, her husband Bill, sons Levon (Erinn) and Adrian (Sara), and by her grandsons Erik and Reid. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 15, at St. Andrews River Heights United Church, 255 Oak Street. Donations in Kathy's name may be made to the Royal Canadian College of Organists, 10 Leeward Place, Winnipeg, MB R3X 1M6, or Canadian Lutheran World Relief / Syrian Refugee Relief at clrw.org. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Kathy was a talented, wise and kind friend. Our Green Street neighbours from Willowvale in Flin Flon will have many fond memories of her from our carefree childhood. Our moms were longtime friends as well. On behalf of my siblings Margo, Barbie, Bob and Pat Liss we send our condolences to Larry and Lorne and to Kathy's husband children and grandkids. She was so proud of you! Her beautiful spirit will shine on through you. - Posted by: Mari-Jean Nachtigall (Liss) (Childhood friend and neighbour) on: Nov 15, 2016

  • Kathy you have been a dear friend since our first meeting in Grade 1 at Willovale School. Although our paths were separated when you went to Winnipeg and I went to B.C., we always kept in touch. I am so thankful for the occasions we have had to spend time together and cherish our last visit. I, like others, will miss your spontaneous, joyful laugh, your kindness and gentle spirit. Bill thanks for taking such good care of Kathy, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. - Posted by: Louise Lefebvre (Schum) (Friend) on: Nov 10, 2016

  • Kathy was all about life. She was all about giving and caring. She will be missed. My condolences to the family. During my last trip to Winnipeg I had the privilege of enjoying an afternoon lunch with her followed by a trip to the Forks and an opportunity to hear stories of her life and stories of her loving family. May you find peace and happiness..... - Posted by: Buddy Doll (Friend) on: Nov 10, 2016

  • I am so saddened to read of Kathy's passing. I knew Kathy from over 35 years back, and recall playing my flute alongside her playing the piano, for Sunday "folk" services at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church while I was in high school in 1985. Kathy went on to play at my brother's funeral later that year, and many years later at our wedding as well as my Dad's funeral in 2000, all at that same church. She was there supporting our family for the best of times and the worst of times, for which I will be forever grateful. Our deepest condolences to her family. - Posted by: Karen Kampen (friend) on: Nov 09, 2016

  • So very sorry for your loss. Kathy was a beautiful person who always saw a way to make others smile. She will always be remembered by her Flin Flon friends. My condolences and prayers are with you. Brian Vance - Posted by: Brian Vance (Teenage friend) on: Nov 09, 2016

  • Kathy was our cousin, who was like our little sister. Our Mothers were Sisters and best friends and we grew up on the same street in Flin Flon. Kathy always had a smile on her face and I never heard her say an unkind thing about anyone. We all took piano, but Kathy was the one who excelled. We will miss her smile, her infectious laugh and the visits we had occasionally over the years. Rest in peace, dear Kathy. - Posted by: Dianne Gauthier LaSchiazza, Laurelle Gauthier White (Cousins) on: Nov 09, 2016
