FRED PAWLUK Peacefully on Sunday, November 6, 2016 Fred passed away at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 87 years. Surviving Fred are his only daughter, Clara (Denise) Garand (Ernie); granddaughters, Stephanie and Arielle; nieces, Kathie, Candy and Virginia; and nephew, Tony Gaudes. He was predeceased by his brother Harry; and sister Anne. On February 13, 1929 Fred was born in Gonor, Manitoba. At an early age, he came to live in Winnipeg, where he attended several schools, namely, Norquay, Aberdeen and St. John's High School. After high school Fred went to work for Maple Leaf Flour Mills in St. Boniface, where he was a millwright for over 25 years until it's closing in the 1970s. After the mill's closing, Fred along with many other Maple Leaf employees were hired by the Canadian National Railway, where he worked until his retirement. In the wheel shop at the CN Transcona yards, Fred ran a small "tuck shop" for his fellow shop mates, in addition to his millwrighting duties. Some of Fred's favourite past-times were going to the races at the Assiniboine Downs, as well as playing the VLTs. He was fortunate to have made many good friends at the Ukrainian Canadian Legion branch #141, including his special friend Lorna. He will be fondly remembered. In compliance with Fred's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. Denise would like to thank the caring staff on the fifth floor of the Victoria General Hospital, especially Dr. H. Adam, for taking such good care her Dad. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Fred's memory can donate to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 0S6.
