Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARSHALL THORNTON WEBBER Peacefully and in his sleep, Marshall Thornton Webber died on October 31, at the age of 95. He was predeceased by Grace, his loving wife for 60 years; his brother Doug and parents, Rita and Harry. Marshall will be remembered by his family with much love and will be missed by daughter Marsha (Bob Jones); sons, Bruce (Brenda) and Randy (Mavis); his grandchildren, Meaghan (Ray Fenwick), Luke (Kaja), Ben (Corey), Justin (Lisa), Travis (Vanessa), Quinn (Julia) and Nigel and great-grandchildren, Cooper, Freja and Emily as well as his brother Ed and family and sister-in-law Joyce and family. Dad was born on June 5, 1921 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was active in Riverview United Church and attended Riverview Elementary and Kelvin High Schools before finishing his education at United College in 1942. During the Second World War, Dad was a member of the Highland Light Infantry and served in battle from mid-1944 through to the end of the war. After the war he was active in the Militia and rose to rank of Major in the 39th Field Regiment, maintaining many friendships with fellow servicemen after the regiment was disbanded in the 1960s. Dad successfully operated his own business for nearly 20 years before working for MTS and the Province of Manitoba, evaluating building maintenance programs around the province. His greatest pleasure was in volunteering in the community. He was very grounded in his faith and at Silver Heights United Church he enjoyed participating in all aspects of church life, especially the choir and outreach. He was an avid member of the Fraternal Order of Barbershop Singers and sang in several groups, including the Happy Homesteaders. He was also very active at the St. James Seniors' Centre. Dad loved to be at the family cottage at Rush Bay in Lake of the Woods. Originally just a shell, along with help from Mom and the kids, he built the cottage into a comfortable four season family retreat. In his 92nd year, Dad moved across the river to The Wellington in Charleswood and enjoyed three good years there. He really appreciated the friendly supportive atmosphere and the feeling of community which he felt from staff and residents alike. We would like to thank the staff at Tower 5, Deer Lodge Centre where Dad spent his last few months. Their kindness, gentleness and sense of humour brightened his days and gave peace of mind to our family, knowing he was being well cared for. A ceremony celebrating Marshall's life will be held on Thursday November 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Silver Heights United Church, 191 Garrioch Avenue with light refreshments to follow. In lieu of flowers in Marshall's memory, please consider a donation to the United Church through Gifts with Vision (giftswithvision.ca) or a charity of your choice.
