JOHN JOSEPH SZYDLIK It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, John Szydlik on Monday, November 7, 2016 at the age of 82 with his family by his side. John leaves to mourn, his devoted son Jeff, daughter-in-law Penny, brother George, sisters Judy (Wayne), Linda (Cease), sisters-in-law Sharon and Jeanette, grandchildren Brian (Rochelle), Jenny (Trevor), great-grandchildren Aaron, Nicholas, Ethan, Christian, Ryan and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Bernice, loving and devoted wife Helen, son Brian, sister Nellie, brother Stanley, brothers-in-law Henry and Mike and sister-in-law Jean. John was born October 2, 1934 in Libau, MB where he lived on the family farm until moving to Winnipeg where he met his loving wife Helen. John landed a job with the City of Winnipeg at Brookside Cemetery and later worked in a maintenance shop at Seaforth where he retired after 25 years. John loved hunting, fishing and camping and made many wonderful memories at Grindstone where he built a cabin with his wife Helen and many family and friends. He loved cooking, gardening, bowling and attending his grandson's hockey games where he eventually received the honour of being official skate tier "Grampy". A prayer service will be held on Sunday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. A private funeral and interment will be held at a later date.
